[edit] Developer-level information about B-test boards
- See also BTest-2 Release Notes (for "B2" laptops) or BTest-1 Release Notes (for "B1" laptops).
- This page is called "Btest Boards" because it describes the circuit board is inside your laptop. But you will probably never see this "board" itself, unless you need to disassemble the laptop for repair. The Release Notes pages linked above have a lot more useful information about your whole laptop. This page is just about a few chips that might or might not be on the board inside your laptop.
- Programming the Altera FPGA - BTest-1 boards have an FPGA that simulates the CaFe chip. It comes preprogrammed, but you might need to update it if new versions of the FPGA bits are released. (Now that all new laptops have the real VLSI CaFe chip, probably nobody will make any new versions of FPGA CaFe simulations.)
- Firmware - All the system firmware releases.
- SPI FLASH Recovery - If for some reason you get bad data in the SPI boot FLASH so the system won't run the firmware, you can reload the SPI FLASH with a special cable.
