Introduction

The XO laptops are very unique computers, and may have issues with webpages that are designed in the traditional format. While these webpages may work just fine on traditional computers, the XO may have some difficulty displaying the full page. This page is designed to be a list of known issues and workarounds concerning web pages that are specifically designed for the XO laptops. By following these tips, any web designer can try to ensure ease of use of his webpage for users of XO laptops.

Issues that are relevant under all applications of the XO

  1. The XO laptops are not extremely fast computers. Lots of images and animations on the page can make it jerky and slow.
  2. Scrolling speed on the XO is very slow. If the user has to do a lot of scrolling, the webpage will take a very long time to scroll through.
  3. The screen width of a XO is only 900 x 1200 pixels.

Issues that are relevant on a XO running on Sugar

  1. The user of an XO running on Sugar cannot change the size of the browser window. It always covers the entire screen, and if it doesn't fit, the user has to scroll around to read the entire page.
  2. A menu will occasionally come onto the screen that creates a border which is about 75 pixels wide, which can obscure important information.
  3. Links or other clickables in the corners of the page, especially the lower corners, can cause the user to accidentally open the menu, which can frustrate the user.
