There are roughly 2.5 million XOs in the field as of January, 2012. The information below represents the number of XOs delivered, shipped or ordered for each country or region. Not all XOs are currently in schools. Where possible, the status of each country and additional details on their software and deployment status is included at the bottom (and on the detailed deployment page). There is also a separate Pilots page for small pilots, which are often run independently from OLPC.

For an overview of deployment steps, see our deployment guide.

    • Colombia has a school-level map from late 2010

Definitions

All information is tentative and subject to change without notice. For the purposes of this and related pages, we use the following definitions:

Pilot
Any project with less than 5,000 laptops in the same school or community with the goal of supplying an XO to every primary school age child.
Deployment
Any project with more than 5,000 laptops in the same region that has been launched with significant engagement by national educational leaders, with a goal of of supplying an XO to every primary school age child.

Preparing for your own deployment

Please check out the Deployment Guide for information about doing an XO deployment.

To document your OLPC deployment, please simply create a new wiki page and add the Deployment template text to your new page along with some details, and if possible technical details, education outcomes and photos of your success.

I can really edit this? Then I think anyone can put false information on this page -- Anonymous

Yes, this is true. Others watch for this, and as a community we expect the competing changes will approach truth. See how a public Wiki works. If you have corrections, please make them. This page is almost certainly out of date and incomplete. Use the Talk page for discussion in future. --Quozl 20:37, 13 November 2012 (UTC)

Deployment status

Deployment status
Guinea A team coached by SvenAERTS - former OLPC Europe - is working here and proposed 2012.03.14 the OLPC Educational Project to the new - November 2010 - first elected government after over 50 years of dictatorship, which is calling upon their team to help make good use of the couple of millions received from the international community. We met several ministers, including the prime minister. The minister of Education claimed he knows the project and saw the project during a state visit to another country, but the laptops were blue and he will receive them for free. We told him the laptops must have been from another project. We indicated potential resources and grant lines to obtain the XO's, but he insisted he would get the blue computers for free. We left it at that and went to the prime minister. 9 Months later, no blue computers have been received.
OLPC -Sana'a-Yemen School - To be confirmed Laptops - 2*25

OLPC Cambodia Exact deployment date not set yet. 1000 of 3200 laptops have already been deployed to schools, however.
OLPC Canada Running Sugar 0.88 with a custom Canadian activity pack
OLPC China Getting a Chinese localized keyboard for a larger deployment; this was a stopgap measure to support students in Sichuan whose original schools had been affected by the earthquakes in 2008.
OLPC Colombia 230 XOs deployed in Marina North school outside Medellin.

School Server planned for Marina North. Exact build tbd.

680 XOs deployed by Pies descalzos foundation at three schools on barranquilla, Bogota and Quibdo (Build 703)

School Server planned for the three schools

Large opportunity under consideration in Colombian Department

OLPC Greece Organized by a network of teachers. Individual saturated classes of students at many schools.
OLPC Guatemala Planned for "before 3rd quarter 2009"; funded by Claro, same company as Telmex which does Mochila Digital in Mexico.
OLPC Haiti Target 703 or later <br />

Target of 13K XOs

Several dozen deployed, no firm date for the rest right now.
OLPC India Currently India is running at less than 5000 OLPC XOs. The single largest deployment of 1000 is in the state of Manipur in and around Imphal. There are schools in Andhra Pradesh, Delhi, Gujarat, Karnataka, Maharashtra, Rajasthan, Uttarakhand, Tamilnadu that are using OLPC.
OLPC Iraq slowly adding classes every few months.
Distributed to computer labs around the country. Half of them deployed to dated, half stuck in transit.
Distributed to computer labs around the country. Half of them deployed to date, half stuck in transit.
OLPC Italy Bernie is not entirely innocent of this deployment! They are using Italian as their language, I believe, despite issues raised on this page.
OLPC Lebanon Several hundred XOs delivered to refugee camp in Lebanon in September. Believe they were given out with build 656 but should be upgraded once Arabic support is confirmed better in 8.2. Another 1000 out of 3500 total given to a refugee camp in the Palestinian territories.
OLPC Madagascar three deployments ongoing.
OLPC Mexico Some ~10k were deployed, others were given by Mexico to Central American countries along with other aid. Limited data available on those deployments.
A donation by Procter & Gamble Mexico. A project lead by P&G, UNETE & Fundación Pro-Mazahuas.
The start of a project in Nayarit for Indigenous Communities (Huicholes, Coras and Tepehuanos). Laptops given to the kids during August 2011. A great example of connectivity (Solar, electricity & Satelital Internet) in distant regions.
A project in San Luis Potosi lead by the Minister of Indigenous Education in the State. No information has been provided on the specific date when XO's were given to the kids in the State . Sugestions have been made by OLPC but limited response from the leaders. Teachers in the State have translated Sugar to their mother language Téenek.
The start of a 350K-student deployment in the state of Sonora.
OLPC Misc These include some smaller gives, and smaller individual projects in Africa, Asia and Latin America. In Oceania, these miscellaneous laptops are rolled into the total for OLPC Oceania; those received via the developers or contributors program are listed under OLPC small groups. Small projects that did not use international English keyboards have their own pages.
OLPC Mongolia 10000+ XOs have been deployed. Some XOs have now upgraded to 8.2 for testing.
OLPC Nepal OLPC Nepal deployed initially ~200 XOs, and later up to 2500 XOs to 26 schools in 6 districts. The machines included the E-Paath learning activities for early elementary students, and are to have school servers running their digial library.
OLPC Nicaragua Interested in OpenWijs and Waveplace; working with regional teachers.
Through the Zamora-Teran Foundation
OLPC Nigeria A larger deployment, independent of the initial Galadima pilot project.
OLPC Niue Information came from http://pipka.org/blog/2008/08/16/olpc-in-niue/. Laptop numbers here may be double-counted under OLPC Oceania.
OLPC Oceania Plan to use a School Server, possibly 0.4. Some islands may be using pre-release 8.2 image.
OLPC Palestinian territories The first 1000 XOs for students in West Bank schools, and 1000 additional XOs for repairs. The first machines arrived in early 2009 with 656 installed, but are being updated.
2,100 XOs delivered to a school cluster in Gaza. There was a big ceremony and demo three months after their delivery; things are progressing rapidly here.

Some schools will deploy School Servers -- the exact date and version are not set yet.
Running Sugar 0.86 with a custom activity pack

As with the 1.0 deployments, some schools want to deploy School Servers -- the exact date and version are not set yet.

These machines are being used in urban areas. Many are being used in Technology Resource Centers, with 1-7 children sharing an XO over the course of a term, with each able to take it home in turn for projects
Some of these machines were ordered by individual provinces, not the federal government.
