Österreich ist ein Staat in Mitteleuropa mit einer Bevölkerung von 8.2 Millionen Einwohnern. Die Amtssprache Österreichs ist Deutsch. Aufgrund von Immigration werden Sprachen wie Türkisch, Arabisch, Italienisch von Teilen der Bevölkerung gesprochen.

Ab 13.6.2007 gibt es jeden Mittwoch ab 19.00 Uhr ein [http://olpcaustria.org OLPC Austria] Treffen im [http://funkfeuer.at VIVI] in der Liebiggasse 9, 1010 Wien. Bei den Treffen wird jeweils zumindesten ein [[Hardware specification | XO-1 Btest-2]] vor Ort zum anschauen, ausprobieren & testen vorhanden sein.

OLPC Austria is an open and versatile group of currently around 15 people supporting the OLPC project in many different ways. Everyone's invited to contribute!

Our projects / activities:

  • exchange experience with other OLPC country organizations
  • educate the general public about the project via presentations and workshops
  • setup and support of European OLPC initiatives
  • development of Open Source Software for the laptop
  • hardware engineering for peripheral devices and gadgets
  • research of new wireless network technologies (Mesh/WLAN)
  • coordination of educational know-how and Open Source developers
