DC Power Share Cable

The cables are still available from new suplier but require a minimum order of approx 250 cables. Pricing depends on several factors but is in the $15-$20 USD range per cable for the minimum 250 unit order.

FreePlay® Weza

Foot Power, Weza

  • Step treadle power: 25-40 Watts
  • Internal rechargeable 12V, 7Ah lead acid battery
  • Can recharge from AC or DC sources as well as foot treadle
  • Requires OLPC specific cable to connect to XO laptop

XS, School Server

The School Server Software provides:

  • LiveCD installation
  • Local Jabber service for school collaborative activities
  • Web caching for easy content retrieval
  • Recommended to be used with infrastructure Access Points (802.11b/g); such as Zoom 4400 AP ($40, not tested for WPA)

School Server SW can be loaded on a generic server with the following specifications:

  • 1GHz+ x86 processor, 1+ GB main memory
  • USB interfaces and an external disk drive
  • One or more 300-500GB+ drive
  • Two 100baseT network interfaces
  • Cost: Varies from country/country and on server specifications.

Software is available today at school server and XS Server Software




ZoWii Ethernet adapter

ZoWii USB2.0 to Ethernet adapter

Connects the XO to Ethernet networks (example: turning the XO into a wired mesh portal). Useful for developers and network experimentation.

  • Extremely compact, low power USB2.0 to Ethernet adapter
  • Based on the ASIX chipset - driver already included in the XO

Active Antenna

Active Antenna

  • 802.11s wireless access point powered via USB
  • Use 1-3 Active Antennas with a school server to create mesh channels for XO laptops
  • Can be used to extend the range of an XO laptop
  • Includes 5 meter cable with USB connector

Past Products - No longer in development

Freeplay® Clamp Charger

Hand Powered Clamp Charger

Testing has shown that the hand crank is not practical for classroom use. Currently the XO requires more power than is easily generated by hand movement.

  • Cranking at 130-140 rpm yields nominal 15VDC at 1500mA
  • LED indicates minimum winding speed for charging the laptop
  • Cable connects directly to XO laptop
  • Cost estimate: $13 each
