Austin Area Jabber Collaboration Server
(Experimental but Functional) server name : opteron.9grid.us
To setup your XO, open the terminal activity and type:
sugar-control-panel -s jabber opteron.9grid.us
It will tell you how to reset your interface so it'll hook up to the new collaboration server.
There's also a user's list here.
TODO: local content server, wiki, and what not.
1/11/2008 UPDATE: Note new server address (changed from olpc.texas.9grid.us to opteron.9grid.us)
- In Austin, Texas, the local user group has a community Jabber server for it's users. At least one member of the group is an active technical writer for various documentation projects.
- Contact Anne Gentle if you are interested in joining the group. At our initial meeting, three of us got together Friday January 4th, 2008.
- Eric Van Hensbergen - technically, the OLPC is my 10-year old daughters, but I'm developing software and content for her (and others as well. I'm also running a Jabber collaboration server for Austin (see Xo-austin)
- Update from Anne Gentle. I have reserved the Spicewood Springs library branch meeting room from 10-11AM Saturday February 23rd. All Austin XO owners and kids are welcome.
Sat Feb 23rd 10:00am meeting at the Spicewood Springs library ([[1]])
We had a nice time at the library and worked with both the Mesh Network and the Jabber server. Turns out, you can be on both at the same time.
We discussed GirlStart [[2]] in Austin starting a development effort for the XO and how we might be able to help by lending hardware. Anne Gentle will contact someone on staff at GirlStart to see how we can help. Edited to add: Anne talked to Clare Richardson at GirlStart, and they have enough XOs for their projects. Their computer game showcase is April 26th from 11-12:30 at the Silicon Laboratories Lobby, see http://www.girlstart.org/itgirl/showcase/ for details.
We wondered aloud whether there will be an XO meetup at SXSW. Whurley is talking about a XO DevCamp at BarCamp Austin but we weren't sure of the interest level or what could be done there. Ideas welcome. See Upcoming Event for BarCamp for more details on BarCamp.
Updated to add: we are getting together at Las Manitas Sunday afternoon around 12:30. RSVP at One Laptop Per Child XO at SxSWi meetup on Upcoming.org
Mikus mentioned a suspend mode and encouraged us to apply for developer's keys.
The kids had yummy cupcakes and some adults had their share as well. Added pictures to the two flickr groups, OLPC and XO photos.

April 23, 6:30 meeting Austin central
Email me or use my talk page for directions to our meeting place, very close to that Starbucks! Thanks. annegentle 19:12, 20 April 2008 (EDT)
I'm interested in getting together with other folks in Austin. I'd prefer central. How about the Starbucks @ 45th & Lamar. Steve Sanderson 20 April 2008
Hi, I got my XO 2months ago and I am getting interested in activity development. Unfortunately I can't make it tomorrow but I hope to make it to the next meeting. Meanwhile, if people need help with specific activity testing, please share.Vasilis 22 April
Well, I clearly missed the April meeting! I have just discovered this group. I purchased my XO at the first Give One Get One in November 07. I am a Campus Technology Coordinator at Barton Springs Elementary School, so I placed it where kids could use and try it all last spring. During the summer I am spending some time trying to figure out how to connect and use it. Janice Friesen 21 July 2008
August 1, 7:00 pm meeting Austin central
Robert Nagle came up with the idea of the Houston XO group and has run several of their meetings. He's going to be in Austin the first weekend of August and said he'd be happy to come to our meeting and talk about ebooks and Scratch (which is a multimedia creator that is pretty neat). Thank you Robert!
Date/Time: Friday August 1st, 7:00 PM Location: Whole Foods at 6th and Lamar, cafe area
Let me know if you can make it! Kids welcome and XOs aren't required (I'll have a spare). annegentle 04:16, 22 July 2008 (UTC)

Let me know if you can make it! annegentle 22:06, 18 August 2008 (UTC)
