Scratch

Scratch is a new programming language that makes it easy to create your own interactive stories, animations, games, music, and art -- and share your creations on the web.

Scratch is designed to help young people (ages 8 and up) develop 21st century learning skills. As they create Scratch projects, young people learn important mathematical and computational ideas, while also gaining a deeper understanding of the process of design.<ref>Official Scratch Website</ref>

Advantages of Scratch

Scratch is a drag-and-drop programming platform which enables students to create media, all the while learning basic programming language attributes, and teaching students principles such as the degrees of angles in a triangle.

Additional Resources

There are three primary sources for learning how to use scratch. While these sources are outstanding, the best way to learn scratch is by using it.

The first source is the forum site on the Scratch website. Forums address issues ranging from basic to complex. The second source was created by Redware.com. It includes step-by-step instructions for creating a fish eating game. The last source is learnscratch.org. This is a great website with scores of instructional videos, each corresponding to an actual scratch game, downloadable from the scratch website.
