I created a USB stick with Ubuntu OS using the wiki Installing Ubuntu on XO from compressed files.

However, the boot process fails with the message,

Filesystem is ext3 but partition type is 0xb (should be 0x83).

However, I definitely did enter t and 83 when I ran fdisk during the creation of Ubuntu OS on the stick.

Can anybody help?

thanks,

Rao

Hi Rao,

Sorry for the late response, but I noticed your question on the OLPC Wiki Bulletin Board from 07 October 2008:

http://wiki.laptop.org/go/Installing_Ubuntu_using_Compressed_Files

I tried to install Ubuntu on my XO following the wiki. At the "tar step I got a zillion error messages saying "cannot create symlink," "cannot hard link," cannot change mode" and may be others too. There were just too many! I downloaded the torrent file to a USB stick on my desktop, took it to the XO and ran the "tar step" with the another formatted (following the wiki) USB stick inserted. I would appreciate any help Rao

If you are looking for this level of technical assistance, I would suggest that you visit devel@lists.laptop.org or one of the developer chat channels linked here: http://wiki.laptop.org/go/Communication_channels

Thank you for experimenting with the OLPC XO, and best wishes for your work!
