Open Source : Synonym of FREEDOM
Hello Friends,
It's nice to see that OPLC is consistently working to encourage and develop free education through their mission statement ;
To create educational opportunities for the world's poorest children by providing each child with a rugged, low-cost, low-power, connected laptop with content and software designed for collaborative, joyful, self-empowered learning. When children have access to this type of tool they get engaged in their own education. They learn, share, create, and collaborate. They become connected to each other, to the world and to a brighter future.
OPLC has created a TRUE COMPETITION among the major players of the LAPTOP industry. But still fighting HARD to achieve it main OBJECTIVES.
Coming to main point, Operating System and related Softwares are not a real HURDLE in the way. But the HARDWARE is always been and is. Which is IGNORED so luckily till now and i don't know how log it will be.
All required the DEVELOPMENT so far have been done in TECHNICAL LAB's with sophisticated, which are indeed required.
But can't the HARDWARE USED BY OPLC SHARED WITH EVERY ONE IN FORM of PCB LAYOUT AND CIRCUIT DIAGRAM. AS ALL THESE ARE THE SOURCE CODE OF AN ELECTRONIC EQUIPMENT. If this is done as fast as we can, WE WOULD HAVE A NO. OF ELECTRONIC ENTHUSIASTS i.e., from Professional to Hobbyists to Novices ALL CONTRIBUTING ONLY FOR BETTERMENT OF STUDENTS.
We could also simplify the design, by using an OLD used concept in a Refined way. We could use TV video game structure, in which all the components are cased in the keyboard to act as a CPU-n-Kyboard at the same time. It would be surely lacking MOBILITY, But in the mean time it would be using existing Home T.V.'s as a monitor to cut down manufacturing costs as DISPALY and as whole for the OPLC's laptop.
A simple overview of the concept is as shown in following figure, in which the Black rectangles represent the USB ports and a LAN port at the back side along-with power and A /V output jacks.
