For the general public
XO applications are called Activities. This page lists both Preinstalled activities and others you can install yourself. The names of activities link to more information about them; the download links, if downloaded to an XO, will automatically install and show up in the activity bar.
For general information about activities, see the laptop.org website.
This page lists many activities, not all yet usable. If you find bugs, please report them!!!. (Don't be discouraged if your report goes for a long time without being updated. The record of your experience is valuable.)
Please add new activities that you have worked on, and see (and contribute to) the Activity guidelines page.
Specific collections of activity and content are available; see our collections, and the WorldWideWorkshop and GCompris activity sets, and repositories of Etoys projects (including those at Potsdam University). See also the Activity packs page, for specific collections of activities, including untested or incomplete activities.
For Developers
Add new activities by following the instructions on the Creating an activity page (Please be sure to read our human interface guidelines in addition to the activity guidelines). When adding your new activity to this page, follow the template syntax as described on the Template:Activity page.
This page lists the latest versions of the various activities in the "G1G1" activity group for the very latest build. These may not work on particular releases.
- If you're looking for the versions of these activities which run on the 8.2 release stream, then you should look at Activities/G1G1/8.2.
- Software update in the 10.1.3 release gets its list of activities to install and update either from Activities/G1G1/10.1 (a big set of activities suitable for the larger-capacity XO-1.5 laptop), or the smaller set in Activities/G1G1Lite (suitable for the original XO-1 laptop), or a deployment may use a different list.
To suggest an activity for inclusion here, please test it thoroughly on the latest release, and list it on the discussion page.

Installing Downloaded Activities
To install an Activity:
- start the Browse activity on your XO;
- go to this page in the browser;
- click on the .xo bundle next to the word Download:
- when it's finished, click OK.
- press the Home key (
) (fifth from the upper left) to see the taskbar. - scroll the taskbar to the right (by clicking on the arrow
) until you see the icon for the activity; click on it to start.

ExecCommand: A very simple utility. On launch, this activity either launches a predefined Unix command, or starts an graphical dialog and queries the user for what command to run. Other installation options
From the Internet (G1G1 owners, use this)
With the 8.2.0 release or later pre-release images called joyride:
- Run the Sugar Control Panel by hovering over the central XO-man on the Home view screen.
- Choose 'Software update.' If you are a G1G1 user and have performed a clean install, you will need to re-add the "G1G1 activities group".
Removal
Open the Terminal Activity, and do the following (depends on whether you installed activities yourself or not) replacing ActivityName with the name of the activity (e.g. TamTamMini) :
- Note: You may want to "ls" before you "rm" so you can see what's in the directory and what options you have.
Preinstalled
- If done carelessly (e.g. removing Terminal, Browse, or Journal) your machine may operate in reduced functionality until you manually reinstall the activity!
