Aw, thanks so much! I really appreciate it. Other ideas that I have are centered around the teachers as well as the kids, such as the teaching aspects of the XO, describing why the XO is important to education, creating or planning lessons that use the XO, scenarios about extra practice on XO basics, based on age of child or curriculum goals... so more to go. Thanks for the encouragement.

Simplified User Guide Graphics

When do you need them done by? I would be willing to work on them, but I can't guarantee apreciable progress during the semester. Winter break would be a great time to work on it though. --Nikki 14:14, 15 November 2007 (EST)

I hope this is the right way to reply... I'll also try email. Thanks so much for offering... we could take rolling additions as time permitted, so your winter break idea is a good one. Mostly the goal is to avoid translation by cutting words and replacing with pictures, so your contributions would be saving work for others. Thanks!

Hey--Nikki clued me in that there's some projects needing graphics, and all I have to do between now and February is write a thesis I have disgusting amounts of free time. Would using layered TIFFs work? gryphus

Thanks for the quick reply, the fluid nature of a wiki can be confusing until one gets used to the culture. You generally reply to people on their own talk pages, since that gives them an automatic highlighted notice when they next visit the site... a common thing to do is to reply on your own talk page for the benefit of others visiting yours, and to paste it into the original commenters talk page as well with your response. Russian translation of SUG

Hi Anne, I am a Russian translator taking care of Russian OLPC wiki pages. I just noticed a reference to your name on the Russian Simplified User Guide page. Changing the battery

Hi Anne,

I don't have a laptop either, but my impression from the animations and instructions are that both latches hold the battery in place when closed, but the left one is spring-loaded closed while the right one is not. So to remove the battery you have to unlock the right one, then hold the left one open while simultaneously lifting out the battery. That's why I illustrated two steps to removing the battery, showing the simultaneous steps in a single illustration. I can do it as a single illustration with numbers, but I'm not sure the simultaneous nature of the action will be as clear. —Joe 15:10, 10 December 2007 (EST)

Working with Mel and IMSA

Just giving you a heads-up on behalf of Mel. Wanted to let you know what she's working on in terms.

  1. a clock activity as suggested by eben at one point http://dev.laptop.org/ticket/2778
  2. making some hardware for Measure
  3. testing and calibrating the Acoustic Tape Measure
  4. making films of simple physics experiments with everyday objects, using the laptop to log data, take pictures, fourier transforms of some instrument sounds, etc.

She's also got IMSA students working on documentation, so if you want screenshots, walkthroughs, etc. ping one of us or find her on irc (as mchua).

really old page

Rummaging through the orphan page list, I noticed this page sitting out there. [[Notes_for_enduser_doc]]. Does it still have any value to you or has it been superseded? If you're done with it and if there's no archival significance, maybe just blank it and tag it with a template:delete. Cjl 18:30, 14 April 2008 (EDT)

Simple, just add this text {{delete}} to the page, usually replacing all other text on the page. I've used nowiki modifiers in the wikitext here so that I don't tag your talk page for delete :-) Once that template is on the page, it will show up in Category:Pages_for_deletion and eventually an admin will clear it. If the template:delete is placed on a page by the only contributor to that page, then it is an easy call for the admin that no one else will object to the deletion. Cjl 12:57, 15 April 2008 (EDT)

Doc sprint

I'm not yet sure where I'll be for those two date ranges (although the end of August will likely see me in the Boston area), so do the date planning without me, let me know when dates are settled, and then I'll see if I can make whatever is decided. The bigger issue, in case I'm able to make whatever is scheduled, would be the availability of travel-funding/food/couches for the sprint, since I can't afford a round-trip plane ticket to Austin right now.
