Wiki account rename ????

Mel, do you have sysop privs, that you help me? I'd like to rename my account 'iainD' to 'ixo'... I believe that wiki Sysop group might have special ability to do a rename. thanks, --ixo, 05:27, 4 February 2008 (EST)

Howdy, fellow Weekly Zine contributor.

Just thought to give a shout-out to some our editorial board, to let them know of some recent updates I did for 'Issue 0 (pilot)'.

Took the day off from work (easy when one works for oneself, I just had to ask myself for a day off. :)... get a few items done...

I created am improved layout and structure to help seed ideas and encourage submissions. I went through all the notes and ideas, laid them out best i could in this structure. (and as always, open to feedback and opinions  :).

Hopefully, this will make it easier, and encourage people to add more entries and submissions. *hint* *hint* *hint* *poke* *prod* "Say no more* *say no more* *wink* *wink*

Grassroots template

M,

Nice job on the Template:Grassroots_group page.

I tried it out on OLPC Bellingham and it seems to work great! :)

Hi Mel, I saw your comments and have responded on my Talk page. Thanks for your interest! --FGrose 00:24, 14 February 2008 (EST)

wiki getting started

Yes, please merge the two getting started pages; anarchic with well-defined process templates is fine for now. Don't let that question deflect you from defining clean processes. --Sj talk 19:15, 15 February 2008 (EST)

looking for people to help plan the Jam

Hi Mel,

I'm a member of the Unicef's new media group at Columbia University (SIPA) and would like to volunteer for UNICEF's upcoming Festival for Global Youth Communication / Storytelling Hackathon on March 28-30th.

What a wonderful initiative -- I would be very keen on volunteering on the filming/recording/editing side. I'm a German / American freelance radio journalist with TV experience. I'm not a trained cameraman, but I could definetely help interview people. Please let me know if you need help on that side.

Best regards,

Marc (info@marcsehrt.com)

New main page design?

What were you thinking when you pushed Home draft live? There must be a dozen reasons not to:

  • It has no content but the general news. Why would we drop the rest?
  • You got rid of the mission *and* the introduction.
  • You removed the core principles from the main page. To what purpose?
  • I don't see any work on the new draft since late Feb, or any discussion on-wiki about the motivation for the redesign; while it is a nice thing to do, it's an opportunity for /active/ discussion, and certainly more than none
  • The image is too large, and the page design requires a very wide screen. I've talked about large image size being a problem, with you and Tank, when the last redesign was underway..

While there are arguments to be had for a main page that is viewale without scrolling, I have yet to see one that is very convincing; and an inviting introduction should certainly remain.

Please discuss what you had in mind at Talk:The OLPC Wiki. --Sj talk 11:05, 18 March 2008 (EDT)

Participate redesign

The same is true for redesigns to any of the main pages linked from the sidebar, such as participate -- please don't start a significant design change unless you have time to see it through to completion (*including engaging community members also interested in wiki design who can help out*). :-) --Sj talk 17:39, 20 March 2008 (EDT)

NYC jam session

Hey Mel. I can help you with the NYC jam session. Let me know how I can help. Mika 12:47, 18 March 2008 (EDT)

Hi there. Sorry for the delay in response. I can help you guys coordinate or can come and join the discussion or both! Let me know if there's anything in the coordination part that needs help. Mika 15:02, 26 March 2008 (EDT)
Great. I'll register today. Mako's already in NYC but we may need to leave in the evening on Sat. Hopefully, I can talk to someone there about the health projects by then (or perhaps we won't need to leave that evening). Mika 17:37, 26 March 2008 (EDT)
Hmm, perhaps I won't be able to make it there this weekend. I won't be able to get into NYC until 9 tonight and Mako already has a ticket back in the early afternoon tomorrow. I might have to send Mako over since he's already there. That being said, I'd love to talk to the people at UNICEF, so that we can get some help on the health project. If I can't do that this weekend, I'd like to do it sometime soon. Mika 09:50, 28 March 2008 (EDT)

Ping!

Hey there. I'm an IMSA student who has recently gotten interested in OLPC (read a lot of pages on the Wiki today, plan to read many more tomorrow and then learn PyGTK in the next six months). I just wanted to let you know that I'm interested in TinyLanguage. In fact, I was talking to Meg today about how, after I got some coding experience under my belt with Python and Sugar, I'd like to design a language teaching program with her and code it (she has the research on education and stuff from her Inquiry and I have coding experience just not in Python/Sugar), but it appears you've already started that process. So definitely keep me up-to-date! In the meantime, I think I'll try to lurk around and maybe start a small project of my own (JRock and Justin, who are currently working on the Clock project are my Quadmates, by the way). Cheers.
