  • If you are proof-reading and testing this page, please do not try to edit it directly. The wikiHTML here is very complex due to difficult formatting needed for the scale and songs.
  • Please put all of your comments and suggestions on this discussion page and I can go in and make any needed changes.
  • This file may be too large for your browser. If it is, please report that hardware and browser you are using. I would prefer not to divide the file if possible.

Thanks for helping! Caryl

Great stuff Caryl. Just one mistake: it's "Do Re Mi Fa Sol La Si Do" ("Si" instead of "Ti"). Appears both in text and on the keyboard image. Lionel.

Thanks Lionel... as I mention in my text, "Ti" becomes "Si" in many countries. I used "Ti" because of the line in the "Do-Re-Mi" song in "Sound of Music" ... "Ti a drink that goes with jam and bread..." Also, my first users of the material were children in a rural elementary school in Montana. I hope folks will read the text that clarifies this! Maybe I should use italics or something?

Lionel In some countries like India we use "si" maybe a UK standard.
But yes "ti" made popular with the movie.
Don't know where my last paras went. will redo.

Caryl A few questions/comments:

  1. Should we refer to this Tam Tam Suit as "Music composition and synthesis". Will help in searches.
  2. Should we say which version of Tam Tam Eg currently we are on version 62
(hopefully works OK with XO1 and XO 1.5)that we have in India.
  3. Should we stick to the Tam Tam Suit sequence as in Sugar Labs? Especially since ref your manual we need to have Tam Tam Edit to be able to use any of the others.
  4. Does this manual assume that we have some understanding of basic music terminology eg. Scales...not something on fish or something we use to measure/weigh things. :)
Since these are wiki and print manuals maybe we can give a link to music terms like Scales. Major, Minor, octave, Treble., Bass etc

needs activity icon(s)

It turns out the icons on wiki.laptop.org are mostly named File:Activity-activityname.svg , in this case File:Activity-tamtammini.svg , similarly tamtamedit.svg, tamtamjam, tamtamsynthlab

  • Activity-tamtammini.svg File:Activity-tamtammini.svg
  • Activity-tamtamedit.svg File:Activity-tamtamedit.svg
  • Activity-tamtamjam.svg File:Activity-tamtamjam.svg
  • Activity-tamtamsynthlab.svg File:Activity-tamtamsynthlab.svg

These icons on w.l.o are old but like other activities the activity icons haven't changed for years.

Someone could make redirects if the naming ActivityName-icon.svg is really important.

Starting TamTamMini is great but seems redundant

Starting TamTamMini gives instructions that will be the same for every activity, it seems it belongs in the chapter Launching Activities -- skierpage 23:08, 7 April 2012 (UTC)

Next Step

Caryl. I've done with what's up on the page and will email these suggestions.
A question I have is: Are you continuing with the rest of it like Introduction to the Drum Machine/Using the drum Machine and Chosing a DrumSet and settling the sliders.
