Mary Wang is a first year undergraduate student at MIT majoring in Chemical Engineering and Management. At MIT, she works in Professor Ross's Material Science and Engineering Lab and is part of the Undergraduate Association Committee on Sustainability and Sustainability@MIT. She has done research at the Cancer Center at the University of Arizona, Dr. Pinney's Biochemistry Lab at Baylor University, and Dr. Zheng's Inorganic Chemistry Lab at the University of Arizona, work that won second place in the team category at the Intel International Science and Engineering Fair of 2008. Mary is passionate about international development, chemistry, and sustainability. She plays the violin and flute, loves literature, and speaks Mandarin Chinese and introductory Spanish and French. She is really excited about this opportunity to go to Mauritania and make a difference.

She is thinking of majoring in biological engineering, and has done research at the Yale Department of Engineering and Applied Science, the Center for Immunotherapy of Cancer and Infectious Diseases at the University of Connecticut Health Center, and currently the Department of Genetics at Harvard Medical School. She is also the president of her own company, Easy Chore, which focuses on ingenious household products for which she has written patents. Janet loves people and has always been involved in community service, whether tutoring at local elementary schools, accompanying community choirs, or serving on student councils. She also has a passion for music, playing both piano and flute, and loves traveling and doing new things.
