Intelligent Learning Framework
This is the project site for the Intelligent Learning Framework, a project which was started at TUM (www.tum.de) during the course of a Bachelor's thesis.
I've been blogging: http://kaserf.blogspot.com/2010/03/xos-incoming.html
More information will follow soon.
Project Proposal

Dennis Pagano and Damir Ismailovic: PhD students (the German counterpart: Promotion, which comes after BSc and MSc)
3. Objectives
Project Objectives: (WEB-PUBLISHED)
Develop a framework to support learning. First steps of a literacy acquisition game have been taken and an Iphone application has been developed during a project at university. The iphone app has been evaluated with a psychologist and some of the children he treats. The evaluation of the app was very promising and showed that learning games which follow pedagogic principles are very effective. The goal of the framework is to support the learner during his learning activity and react if problems appear.
4. Plan of Action
Plan and Procedure for Achieving the Stated Objectives:
- Port the Iphone game (weMakeWords) to sugar and evaluate it with the children and the psychologist.
- Psychologist: http://www.kinderpsych-garmisch.de/english/index.html
- develop the framework to support learning
- use the framework in existing sugar activities like Physics to detect problems and help the learner to resolve them
5. Needs
This project is part of a bigger research project at university and can enhance learning. The framework could be used by many other sugar activities to detect problems during an activity and help resolve them intelligently. It is important for the collaborative aspect of the game, to give the children the possibility to sit together and play (with Psychologist). Note: There is no agreement with the psychologist yet, but in the past the collaboration was very good and thus I'm confident that there will be a collaboration between the university and the psychologist in future. The machines which could emulate the game would be desktop machines or clumsy notebooks which would not enhance a collaborative learning activity. For the framework its important to develop and evaluate the framework on the machine, because it is not sure whether the XO1.5 can take the load of categorizing and classifying actions and interactions to draw conclusions regarding the behavior of the learner.
6. Sharing Deliverables
Project URL—where you'll report specific ongoing progress:
All results of the project will be shown on the website of the department at university. http://www1.in.tum.de/static/lehrstuhl/ and http://wiki.laptop.org/go/ILF http://wiki.laptop.org/go/User:Kaserf
Have you investigated working with nearby XO Lending Libraries or Project Groups?
yes, we are in contact with the AlpXO Repair Center.
7. Quality/Mentoring
Would your Project benefit from Support, Documentation and/or Testing people? Teachers' input into Usability?
At this stage in the project I feel we have the resources to accomplish the initial goal, but in near future I would hope that we can connect with the larger community in most of the ways you described above to further complete.
How will you promote your work?
I feel the first step would be to promote the work in the university classroom to discuss and share with colleges, student body and professors, but the goal would be to publish an xo-bundle on http://activities.sugarlabs.org
Can we help you with an experienced mentor from the OLPC/Sugar community? (WEB-PUBLISHED)
If YES: specify the kind of Ongoing Mentoring that will benefit you most. If NO: specify who will help you share your progress, creations & results.
I have already connected with a mentor from the OLPC/Sugar community, which is helping me to develop this idea. I'm in touch with Stefan Unterhauser
