- Quanta Computer Incorporated is a Taiwan-based manufacturer of notebook computers and other electronic hardware. It is the largest manufacturer of notebook computers in the world [1]. Its customers include Dell Computer, Compaq, Gateway Computers, Apple Computer, Hewlett Packard, IBM, Sony, Sharp Corporation, Toshiba, Fujitsu, Maxdata and Siemens AG. It was founded by Barry Lam in 1988, and is currently still headed by him.
Quanta Computers was announced as the Original Design Manufacturer (ODM) for the $100 laptop project on December 13, 2005.
It is estimated that Quanta had a 33% worldwide market share of notebook computers in 2005.
