''OLPCO2e'' was a proposed project to somehow associate OLPC with electronic CO2 certificates - since the XO laptops are some of the lowest-power and greenest laptops around. The proposal mentioned the names of many distinguished global initiatives, including the second UN Millennium Development Goal.
''OLPCO2e'' was an project proposed by Sven Aerts to somehow define digital CO2 certificates that could be earned by investing in green, environmentally friendly laptops such as the XO, rather than traditional power-hungry machines. The proposed project got as far as registering a domain at [http://www.olpco2e.org OLPCO2e.org] (which redirects to this page) and setting up a few administrative pages. The project as a whole was not pursued / did not proceed after Sven left OLPC in mid-2009.

No concrete connections between OLPC and these certificates was made, and the project was abandoned in mid-2009. This page is kept for historical purposes.
Some highlights of the proposed but deprecated idea:
* It was connected variously to the UN goal of Universal Primary Education by 2015, and to other UN programs such as ''Agenda 21''
* An "Animated OLPCO2e Assistant" was discussed and designed
* A [http://sites.google.com/site/olpco2eteamprivate/olpco2e-business-plan-1/olpco2e-total-quality-control-and-management Quality Control Panel] was developed for the proposal

For older discussions about the topic, '''see [[Talk:OLPCO2e|the talk page]]'''.
'''Sites and groups not controlled by OLPC''':
* Separate sites have been set up as an [http://sites.google.com/site/olpco2e/ OLPCO2e Virtual/Wiki Office] (on a ''different'' wiki, closed to editing), a [http://groups.google.be/group/olpco2e Discussion Group], and a private [http://sites.google.com/site/olpco2eteamprivate/Home "Staff & Kernel Team"] wiki (unclear what the Kernel team is for).
*: Aside from perhaps Giulia D'Amico, no OLPC staff have access to those external sites, and no editors of this wiki other than Giulia and Sven. OLPC have no control over their content... even less than over any page on this wiki :-)

OLPCO2e was a proposed project to somehow associate OLPC with electronic CO2 certificates - since the XO laptops are some of the lowest-power and greenest laptops around. The proposal mentioned the names of many distinguished global initiatives, including the second UN Millennium Development Goal.

No concrete connections between OLPC and these certificates was made, and the project was abandoned in mid-2009. This page is kept for historical purposes.
