I work in a Faculty of Education with prospective teachers, and co-conduct a large initiative called the Remote Networked Classroom ( http://www.eer.qc.ca ) in rural Quebec. For over ten years I have been a participant observer of a student-owned laptop program in a secondary school. The school-within-a-school program was built out of the professional development school model (PDS) where practice teaching merges with professional development, and the latter with collaborative research.
