Give 1 Get 1 (G1G1) users who choose to upgrade to 'Update.1' will currently be without any base activities. Some custom installed activities may still remain, but for the most part... none will be guaranteed available.
These are called [[Activity pack|Activity Packs]].

This page is for developing the list of activities for the OLPC G1G1 deployment. Which currently is informally discussed among the grassroots volunteers with coordination of OLPC staff. Currently, there is no mechanism to gather/collect community volunteer input about deployment activities. So below is a starting list of ideas.

Developers can create their own activity pack, see [[Activity pack]].

The OLPC Peru deployment (as of March'2008, estimated to be over 80,000) units have been shipped between December 20th, and March 25th. These were shipped with base 'Ship2' (build 650), with auto-upgrade to (build 656). Eventually, all of these laptops (unless specifically opted out, or has developer key installed), will be updated to Ship.2.2 (build 656).

These were shipped with base 'Ship2' (build 650), 'Ship2.1' (build 653), and may now have Ship2.2 (build 656), which was being rolled out automatically. The idea also would be to limit the total number of activities or size/storage necessary. To make it easy to download and install. Could be split into phases or parts (??), if list of 'final' activities gets too large. (Define large as ???)

(note: Intended to be used with builds 699 and higher in the 8.1 stream, also known as "Update.1". This contains Customization Key version 2.)

then follow the instructions for Installing an activity pack.

Background

Beginning with candidate builds (pre-release build 699 or newer) for the 8.1.0 or "Update.1" operating system release, the OLPC 'base software' does not include any activities.

Deployment staff working with OLPC staff and local volunteers develop core sets of activities to be installed on the XO-1 Laptop during deployment. These are called Activity Packs.

2007 Give One, Get One (G1G1 2007) users who choose to upgrade to release 8.1.0 will be without any base activities; the G1G1 activity pack provides them with their "lost" activities.

Developers can create their own activity pack, see Activity pack.

Alternative: Software update

Starting with Release 8.2.0, if you are connected to the internet you can use Software update in the Sugar Control Panel to install and update groups of activities; one such group is Activities/G1G1.

G1G1 2007 deployment

The OLPC G1G1 2007 deployment (as of March 2008, estimated to be over 80,000) units have been shipped between December 20th, and March 25th. These were shipped with base 'Ship2' (build 650), 'Ship2.1' (build 653), and may now have Ship2.2 (build 656), which was being rolled out automatically. Eventually, all of these laptops (unless specifically opted out, or has developer key installed), will be updated to Ship.2.2 (build 656).

If any of these users upgrade their XO by any update method (olpc-update or clean-install procedure ) to Release 8.1.0 (build 700 or better), they will soon discover that their activities are no longer as they were: they will have moved from /usr/share/activities to /home/olpc/Activities.

The base activities that were shipped with G1G1 machines will be bundled for easy reinstallation after installing 8.1. Additional activities may also be recommended for inclusion as 'G1G1 bundled activities'. The first 22 activities below (with 'ship2 next to them) were shipped with G1G1 laptops and are currently planned to be in Update.1 G1G1 customization scripts. For additional activities, please add supporting notes (rational, pro/con, dependencies, etc..). The more justification, the more likely it will be included in final bundle. (ranked semi-order of importance in bundle, or need another method for 'weighing' desire of one bundle over another)

The idea also would be to limit the total number of activities or size/storage necessary. To make it easy to download and install. Could be split into phases or parts (??), if list of 'final' activities gets too large. (Define large as ???)

Activities included in the G1G1 activity pack

Grassroots volunteers with coordination of OLPC staff discussed other activities that could be added to the list for G1G1 users in the 8.1.0 ("Update.1") release.

As of November 2008, the G1G1_Activity_Pack_1.zip download on this page dates from March 2008. Its bundled activities (and their versions) are:

Calculate-18.xo
