The examples are nearly static data. This is best distributed via truck, ship, horseback, camel, etc. Sending many gigabytes of data over a REALLY SLOW radio link just doesn't make sense. (shortwave, so-called "high frequency", is very low frequency by modern standards)

It would be possible to *easily* build in an AM radio using the 484 chip...
It is also easy, but impractical to build in a respectable AM transmitter, due to the simplicity of the circuit and high power requirements(1+W)...
