We conducted a survey of the condition of the hardware:
One screen has thumb-size groups of dead pixels on either side of the screen. Possibly this was due to squeezing the screen with too much pressure.
A few batteries have poor performance.
4-5 laptops suffer very poor wireless reception. Possibly this is due to rough handling of the ear antennas.
The most common damage to the laptops was torn keyboards.
Teachers were "repairing" the keyboards with scotch tape.
Rashmi Vadnagare set out to explore better solutions as outlined in keyboard field repairs.
Instead of silicone, she tried acrylic paint.
The results were adequate.
She also performed some key transplants.
Rashmi involved the sixth grade students in some of the repairs.
