Sophie consists of Authoring and Reader applications, each designed for their respective purposes.

Sophie supports flowing content, fixed content, video, audio and content on remote servers (as browers do)

Sophie books are XML documents plus their content. Anyone can develop their own Sophie generation or reading tools.

Sophie is developed in Squeak using Smalltalk and plugins for performance and extensions, such as video.

Sophie uses a one-screen interface which allows it to adapt to an OLPC interface. Much of Sophie's look and feel is determined by XUL/CSS. Extensions written in Smalltalk supply much of the UI functionality.
