I'm making you a teamwiki account; see also [[curators and coordinators]] for topical divisions.

Code currently gets packaged up as [[Activity Bundles]] ([[OLPC_Human_Interface_Guidelines/Activities/Activity_Bundles|design guidelines]]); content contributors can fill out a [[Request for content|content information form]].

Got your message, Lauren - would love to talk. I'll be back in Cambridge starting June 6 so we should have plenty of time to meet each other. I'm catching up on a work backlog (just graduated from college) so I might be alternately quiet and spasming out content for the next few days, but drop me a line at mel at mel chua dot com (no spaces) and we can get to know each other - I'll be updating my project list soon but I'm very interested in hearing about yours, especially the howto guides, content submission, education volunteer ops, and volunteer organizing. --[[User:Mchua|Mel]]

[[User:MitchellNCharity|MNCharity]] has some interesting ideas, and is organizing parts of the wiki related to how to get started. [[User:18.85.18.111|18.85.18.111]] 17:55, 29 May 2007 (EDT)

== some templates ==

I worked out two templates, on for tagging some [[Template:Pending|<tt><nowiki>{{Pending|notes}}</nowiki></tt>]] (which I took the liberty to splash in the page [[Educational activity guidelines]]). Feel free to remove it or [[Template talk:Pending|comment]] on it. The {{Pending|reminder}} color is a bit harsh ;)

The other template (currently in the [[Template:Sandbox|<tt>Sandbox</tt>]]&mdash;possibly to be named <tt><nowiki>{{Task | blah | blah}}</nowiki></tt>) is to allow for a more structured way to organize Tasks as mentioned in [[Participate]]. More whacky stuff can be done on the template, like automatic categories combining the category of a task and its time unit&mdash;ie: a specific category for Programming tasks that take days&mdash;but that may be pushing the envelope too far and may actually complicate things.

Either way, please let me know if you think it's usable (or has potential) so I 'graduate' it from the Sandbox. Cheers, --[[User:Xavi|Xavi]] 19:37, 31 May 2007 (EDT)

: ''follow-up in [[User talk:Xavi#Task Template]]''

:: Glad you liked them!
:: I was thinking maybe to use a 'task' qualification for the 'automatic' categorization. Instead of categorizing under plain <tt>Programming</tt> or <tt>Other</tt> (last one could be messy) use something like <tt>Programming Task</tt> or <tt>Other Task</tt> (all sub-categories of <tt>Tasks</tt>).
:: Adding status and team members? Could be. It makes sense to know who's working on what and avoid nobody working on something... I'll add them. BTW, I've 'graduated' the template to [[Template:Task]]. --[[User:Xavi|Xavi]] 13:01, 1 June 2007 (EDT)

----

If you need any help with templates or ideas, please don't hesitate to ask! :) I think I can pull a template that would structure things in the form of subpages and links... We can discuss it in #olpc-content or other [[IRC]] channel :) --[[User:Xavi|Xavi]] 11:43, 11 June 2007 (EDT)

----

After a chat in the <tt>[[IRC]] #olpc-l10n</tt> channel we discussed a bit about 'new tagging templates' for users to put in their user pages (following the [[:Category:User languages]] spirit), that in conjunction with your call in [[Educators#Where to Start?]] motivated my proto-test in [[Template:Sandbox]] (still a bit crude and needs polishing).

The idea would be to extend the mechanisms into other areas (coders, artists, etc) and also include some templates (hinted by the parameters&mdash;must verify if that actually works) that can tag things by grades, subjects, etc. Comments? --[[User:Xavi|Xavi]] 10:27, 21 June 2007 (EDT)

: I got the <s><nowiki>[[Template:Teacher]]</nowiki></s>[[Template:Educator]] sort of running (an alternative name was <s>''Educator''</s> but... [edit: now is back to ''educator'']) please take a look at it, as I would need some help in the classification of the 'subjects'... (it's been way too long since I don't think in those lines, and had too many variations on the subject&mdash;no pun intended).
: Do you [[IRC]] or skype? to chat a bit better (talk spaces are great, but too slow sometimes ;) --[[User:Xavi|Xavi]] 12:00, 21 June 2007 (EDT)

----

: '''follow-up to [[User talk:Xavi#Some Templates]] about grades, ages & subjects'''

:: Yes, I think it's a good idea! It could actually re-use some (sub)templates already used in [[Template:Educator]] (like [[Template:Grade]] & [[Template:Subject]]). But I'm still thinking that a [[Template:Babel-X]] of sort would fit better... in the meantime you could just use the [[Template:Grade|<tt><nowiki>{{Grade|n}}</nowiki></tt>]] & [[Template:Subject|<tt><nowiki>{{Subject|whatever}}</nowiki></tt>]] in those pages... Ideas? --[[User:Xavi|Xavi]] 15:05, 3 July 2007 (EDT)

== educator template comments ==

(on [[educator template]] and [[educational organization template]]) - good idea to make it a copyable wikipage instead of a wiki template, but should still be in template category. should have an educators category and an educational institutions category too. needs instructions for how to use, esp. for non-wiki-using teachers. this can be used as a base for the general "volunteer/user" template and "community group" template, should we generalize now? [[User:Mchua|Mchua]] 17:19, 14 June 2007 (EDT)

== Improving wiki experience for educators ==

Hi, is there a big picture for improving wiki experience for educators? [[User:Xavi]] and I were brainstorming on #olpc-content. Noting things like [[Educators]] isn't linked from the home page. And that the sidebar's "Learning parables" could be replaced by a link to it. And topical (and age?) categorization of resources for teachers. Thoughts? Anything folks can do to help? [[User:MitchellNCharity|MitchellNCharity]] 13:00, 15 June 2007 (EDT)

Re "Don't want to link to Educators off the main page until it has more of a shape, but that should be soon.". I look forward to it. Though I was mistaken: Educators is already linked from the main page (in "What you'll find inside", labeled "content"). Leaving the question of replacing the sidebar's [[Learning Learning|Learning parables]] link with a [[Educators|For educators]] link (or somesuch). Do we prefer showing each morning's visitors [[Learning Learning]] or [[Educators]]? I think Educators is already very much better. I also note the current standard for hanging off the sidebar is not high, witness [[Learning Learning]], and the mess in [[Software]]. So I'm not sure waiting is the right model. The radio show is live, whatever its faults, but some listeners are being misdirected to the echos of an earlier, weaker act. :) [[User:MitchellNCharity|MitchellNCharity]] 14:58, 20 June 2007 (EDT) (Feel free to delete this note once you've seen it.)

== Re: New Translation Project ==

''follow-up to [[User talk:Xavi#New Translation Project]]''

Would the idea be to translate [[MMM lesson plan translations]] (local [[wiki]]) pages or the actual external link ([http://www.worldwideworkshop.org/olpcwiki/index.php?title=Main_Page worldwideworkshop.org])? I'm asking because of the use of the [[Template:Translations|<nowiki>{{Translations}} template</nowiki>]] in [[Slider Puzzle: Lesson Plans Overview]] and similar...

Regardless of what is done in this particular case, would the use of the [[Template:Task|<nowiki>{{Task...}}</nowiki> template]] imply that after the tagged page is translated the tag should be removed? (trying to understand the actual usage of the template ;) --[[User:Xavi|Xavi]] 09:12, 21 June 2007 (EDT)

== Educational activity guidelines ==

Are the '''[[Educational activity guidelines|EAG Key Design Principles]]''' pages <span style="font-size:70%;"><s><nowiki>([[EAG Key Design Principles: Adaptability]], [[EAG Key Design Principles: Collaboration]], [[EAG Key Design Principles: Constructionism]], [[EAG Key Design Principles: Iteration and Critique]], [[EAG Key Design Principles: Mobility]], and [[EAG Key Design Principles: Transparency]])</nowiki></s></span> targetted for ''deletion''? Or will new content be put in them?

If the intent is to 'zap' them, then I recommend just adding at the top the [[Template:Delete|<tt><nowiki>{{delete}}</nowiki></tt>]] tag, so that inbound links can be taken care of (either redirected or remved, so that they don't link to ''empty'' pages). --[[User:Xavi|Xavi]] 13:07, 3 July 2007 (EDT)

== Manual categories ==

Hi! I just noticed you created two categories:
[[:Category:Content Packages]]
[[:Category:Content Package July 2007]]
that are ''weird''... for starters they don't seem to have the usual stuff that a category has... so I'm assuming that you created them 'manually' (instead of following a ''missing category link'') to fill it up, could that be so?

Another aspect of ''weirdness'' is that they don't appear in [[Special:Categories]] but do appear in [http://wiki.laptop.org/index.php?title=Special%3AAllpages&from=&namespace=14 the namespace]...

I think the best solution would be to delete them and re-create them by following a missing link... Confused, --[[User:Xavi|Xavi]] 17:50, 11 July 2007 (EDT)
