This command is run in the standard Linux environment via the Terminal Activity. The GUI will probably not integrate comfortably with the XO Laptop's Sugar environment. Your user experience may vary considerably depending on the established environment and the other programs running on the laptop, may need re-installation after an OS Update. See the Linux software category for other commands. |
Description
Google's image manipulation and catalogue program, Picasa 2.7 Beta for Linux, from http://picasa.google.com/linux .
Installation
$ wget http://dl.google.com/linux/rpm/testing/i386/picasa-2.7.3736-7.i386.rpm
$ sudo yum install ./picasa-2.7.3736-7.i386.rpm

To Run
$ picasa
Note:
- Picasa (for linux) is actually the MS-Windows version, packaged with wine.
- Wine 0.9.20 is included with Picasa (for Linux), allows to run Microsoft Windows programs.
- Under Sugar GUI, Picasa may open a dialog window which is not visible in Sugar. Alt-Tab to active this dialog box.
- Load times are 5 to 10 minutes, wait until 'splash box' goes away.
- Under Sugar GUI, you can do other Activities while loading, Alt-Tab to switch Activities.
