Ifconfig

This command is run in the standard Linux environment via the Terminal Activity. The GUI will probably not integrate comfortably with the XO Laptop's Sugar environment. Your user experience may vary considerably depending on the established environment and the other programs running on the laptop, may need re-installation after an OS Update. ifconfig is a Linux command to review network configuration options and must be run through the "Terminal Activity".

ifconfig for Wireless eth0

At a Terminal Activity command prompt, enter

/sbin/ifconfig -a eth0        

MAC Address

The MAC Address is listed as HWaddr in the first line.

/sbin/ifconfig -a eth0    
eth0      Link encap:Ethernet  HWaddr 00:17:C4:05:24:24  
          inet addr:192.168.1.107  Bcast:192.168.1.255  Mask:255.255.255.0

IP Address

If your XO is connected to a wireless network, the IP address is listed on the second line as inet addr:

/sbin/ifconfig -a eth0
