Introduction
Download G1G1_Activity_Pack_1.zip
- (note: Intended to be used with Update.1 builds 699 and higher, contains Customization Key version 2.)
then follow the instructions to Install an activity pack.
Background
Starting with operating system Update.1 candidate builds (pre-release build 690 or newer), the OLPC 'base software' does not include any activities.
Deployment staff working with OLPC staff and local volunteers develop core sets of activities to be installed on the XO-1 Laptop during deployment. These are called Activity Packs.
Give 1 Get 1 (G1G1) users who choose to upgrade to 'Update.1' while it is still in 'release candidate' status will currently be without any base activities; the G1G1 activity pack provides them with their "lost" activities.
Developers can create their own activity pack, see Activity pack.
G1G1 activity list
This page includes the list of activities that were part of the G1G1 Ship2 deployment. Grassroots volunteers with coordination of OLPC staff are discussing other activities that could be added to the list for G1G1 Update.1 release. Below is a starting list of ideas.
G1G1 deployment
The OLPC G1G1 deployment (as of March'2008, estimated to be over 80,000) units have been shipped between December 20th, and March 25th. These were shipped with base 'Ship2' (build 650), 'Ship2.1' (build 653), and may now have Ship2.2 (build 656), which was being rolled out automatically. Eventually, all of these laptops (unless specifically opted out, or has developer key installed), will be updated to Ship.2.2 (build 656).
If any of these users update (by any update method olpc-update or activated_upgrade ) to Update.1 (build 700 or better), they will soon discover that their activities are no longer as they were: they will have moved from /usr/share/activities to /home/olpc/Activities.
The base activities that were shipped with G1G1 machines will be bundled for easy reinstallation post Update.1. Additional activities may also be recommended for inclusion as 'G1G1 bundled activities'. The first 22 activities below (with 'ship2 next to them) were shipped with G1G1 laptops and are currently planned to be in Update.1 G1G1 customization scripts. For additional activities, please add supporting notes (rational, pro/con, dependencies, etc..). The more justification, the more likely it will be included in final bundle. (ranked semi-order of importance in bundle, or need another method for 'weighing' desire of one bundle over another)
The idea also would be to limit the total number of activities or size/storage necessary. To make it easy to download and install. Could be split into phases or parts (??), if list of 'final' activities gets too large. (Define large as ???)
