Groups in South Carolina in the United States have been talking to OLPC for years. They began a small trial in 2008, through the One Laptop per Child/SC project. They maintan an occasional (and neatly designed) blog.<ref>Laptopsc.org</ref>
One Laptop per Child/SC
In May 2008, the South Carolina State Superintendent of Education, Jim Rex, announced the initiative. They hope to expand their first 500 XOs into ten times that by the end of 2008, and 50,000 by early 2009. The first two schools engaged in the trial are Britton’s Neck Elementary and Rains Centenary Early Childhood Center.
