What

This working session--called a sprint--will focus on updating an outdated collection of web pages with basic information about the XO laptop and Sugar. The pages are here:

http://www.laptop.org/start

These pages have not been widely promoted or used since the first OLPC Give One Get One promotion in 2007.

Why

The XO-1.5 laptop has gone into production and the Sugar Learning Platform has been significantly updated. There is a need to have this high-quality collection of web pages updated.

When

Saturday, March 27, 2010 - Sunday, March 28, 2010

Where

Arlington Career Center
816 South Walter Reed Drive
Arlington, VA 22204

Who

  • Mike Lee
  • Adam Holt
  • Kevin Cole
  • Jeff Elkner
  • George Hunt
  • Amy Lee (copy editing remotely and some pre-sprint prep)

Project Tasks

  • Reuse as much of the existing HTML and Javascript as possible.
  • Code keywords into all the new pages for search engine friendliness.
  • Some of the text will need to be edited to reflect recent changes in the hardware and Sugar.
  • Many new screenshots will need to be made.
  • Some of the photo illustrations with callouts will need to be edited due to changes in Sugar or the laptop (e.g. expanded activity ring and new trackpad design).
  • Outbound links need to be rechecked.
  • One or more new pages need to be written and illustrated to explain new features such as the new Gnome Desktop.
  • Create some inbound links from elsewhere on www.laptop.org and other user group sites.
  • Time permitting, all updated pages and illustrations to be collected into a downloadable PDF.
