TENTATIVE! TENTATIVE! TENTATIVE!

The significant advances of XSCE 5.1 changed the game. If truly nec, v5.5 (a huge step forward) can be relabeled to v6.0 prior to release (sure enough, we're going with 6.0 given such giant strides!) Just for the record, the original proposal per Oct 29th 2013's proposal was:

  • 6 Dec 2013 31 Oct 2014 18 Jun 2015 (summer 2015) Feature Freeze
  • 1 Jan 2014 30 Nov 2014 15 Jul 2015 (autumn 2015) Release Candidates
  • 14 Jan 2014 31 Dec 2014 15 Aug 2015 (India's Independence day..fly kites!) February 2016 Final Release

Note XSCE 6.0's Specification (tinyurl.com/xsce-six) remains in final flux, with many possible new features emerging all the way back to October 2013's San Francisco Sprint, our Los Angeles meetup Feb 21-23, 2014 and much hard word since -- and ongoing contributions inspired by schools' input from Haiti, Nepal, Malaysia, Ghana, Fiji, beyond!

[18 March 2015, Anish writes:] I think it's mostly up to us, the dates. If we say, lets freeze the feature-set at point 'X', we could estimate the amount of effort involved in:

  • Testing installation in the few platforms we support. (no idea)
  • Documentation (2-3 weeks *at least*)
  • Announce (2-4 days)
  • Perhaps, (or maybe not), the website could be part of the 'release' (that's another 1-2 weeks of work, separate from documentation)?
