Deep Cycle Batteries
Deep cycle batteries are designed to provide a steady amount of current over a long period of time; they achieve this by using thicker plates than typical car batteries. Deep cycle batteries are found in boats, golf carts, and solar power systems.
Properties of batteries:
- Cold Cranking Amps (CCA) - amps that the battery can produce at 0°C
- Reserve Capacity (RC) - minutes that the battery can deliver 25A, voltage > 10.5V
For deep cycle batteries, RC is 2-3 times greater than car batteries, while CCA is about 0.5-0.75 of car batteries. While car batteries are not designed to be completely discharged, deep cycle batteries should withstand hundreds of discharge/recharge cycles.
