Intro

OLPC Nepal in coordination with Ministry of Education, Department of Education is conducting a pilot of "One Laptop Per Child" in Janajyoti School. Sixteen Students of fourth graders of the school are provided with the B4 XO Machines ("Sanu Sathi" in Nepali).

Timeline

14th March, 2008

First introduction of OLPC Nepal team to the school. Shankar, Nirmal and Prakash visited the school for the first time with Department of Education(DoE) officials. DoE selected the school as the pilot site. Some days before our visit DoE officials had visited the school and confirmed it as the pilot school. We met Narayan Prasad Mahaju, the school headmaster, who is really enthusiastic and energetic person even in the age of sixties. He has been teaching for 45 years and teaching in Janajyoti School for 31 years (really a long time). He made us feel that we'll be getting full support from the school.

18th March, 2008

Follow up discussion with Teachers and School Management Committee representatives.Nirmal and Shankar went to school to plan the activities for the pilot. We talked with school management committee and the teachers about the program and made a draft plan for the pilot. To make it more comprehensive and inclusive, we called a gathering of teachers, school management committee and the parents on 20th March at 7 am in the morning.

20th March, 2008

Orientation to Parents, Teachers and School Management Committee. Ankur and Shankar went to the school to orient the parents, teachers and school management committee about OLPC program.

Formation of "Janajyoti Sanu Sathi Team". In the meeting we formed a team to coordinate all the stuffs related to OLPC. The team named "Janajyoti Sanu Sathi Team" constitutes 9 members having representatives from, parents, school management committee, teachers and OLPC Nepal.

25th March, 2008

Janajyoti Sanu Sathi Team" meeting. Ankur and Shankar went to school for the meeting. The team discussed about the pilot plan, the distribution program and about sustainability issues.
