Detailed Description
Providing email support through the DXS could be a key value add from the appliance. The server must host the email accounts for the clients, maintain an LDAP address repository, and sync up with an online server in the presence of internet connectivity.
Thus a student should potentially be able to send email to anyone, even if they aren't online, but just connected to the server. These emails could be batch-processed when the server does come online.
The need for this offline-available architecture is pervasive through the server platform. Perhaps we should put some thought into this at an architectural level.

What is the benefit to the platform? If this is a major capability update, what has changed? If this is a new feature, what capabilities does it bring? Why will XSCE become a better platform or project because of this feature?
Make sure to note here as well if this feature has been requested by a specific deployment, or if it has emerged from a bug report.

What work do the developers have to accomplish to complete the feature in time for release? Is it a large change affecting many parts of the distribution or is it a very isolated change? What are those changes?

Contingency Plan
