About me
My name is Eduardo Silva (do not mistake with me another Eduardo Silva highly involved with the project).
Stuff
- An icon for a culinary-like Activity, like Cook, or other. Not yet Sugarized, and work in progress. No sure though if such an activity would be necessary. A kid/parent could create a recipe in Write, and tag it appropriately (recipe chocolate cake).
Random Notes
Etoys
In Etoys, I want a player to move forward 5 steps a certain amount of times. But in succession, i.e, 5 steps forward, then +5 steps forward, etc. If in the same script I put "Repeat 5 times - Do forward 5", it will be the same as "forward 25" If I try create 2 scripts for the player, "player scriptA" contains "player forward by 5", and "player scriptB" contains "Repeat 5 times - Do scriptA", it also moves once 25 pixels. I can explain what and why I want to do this. I want to have an ovni to move a randon number of times in a direction, then a random number of times in another, and so on infinity. oh, and in random directions as well.
- Figured a way by by looking at the Welcome Screen car script of the OLPC etoys.
- I created a red polygon square around the screen. Then used this code for the Ovni script (Following the etoys look):
- Test ovni's <blue> color sees <red> color
- Yes ovni's forwardDirection decrease by (91 + random (90))
- ovni forward by 10
- No
- ovni forward by 10
- ovni bounce silence
- Test ovni's <blue> color sees <red> color
There may be a better way, but right now this is how I did it.
Review Squad logo
Idea. I'll leave out any explanation, to see if this works (what comes up to your mind when you see it?)
I tried to convey in a simple way what people (kids and others) being part of the review groups will be doing, which is to "stamp" their reviews (likes and dislikes) on all kinds of content done for the XO (be it software, static, dynamic, etc). While also keeping in style with the One Laptop Per Child logos at laptop.org.
It's a plain SVG, made with inkscape. Feel free to mess with it.
Stamping Review
Delucks comment: Yes, so the "stamping" idea is great and translates-obviously, so the U.I. example on my page would have the Review Squad represented by a "half-mask" (instead of the whole one, like the initial one I made-which will be basically the icon in the end, just tweaked) that has the ability to have a "Meeting/Discourse of Importance" with another Reviewer. So, obviously, some one would have to implement this in a sort of program or that kind of atmosphere.
But, it would be Really awesome if, say, your stamp was their stamp of approval, or that they had even had a "meeting" on a subject, kind of like a flag, automatically really really delineating them from the rest of the Users. (This of course introduces competition, which, in learning, is going to be inherent, but also needs to be a bit encouraged-raising the bar). Let me know what you think about that, this could be really cool if we could get someone to implement it.-Delucks 09:36, 1 August 2007 (EDT)Delucks
Re: New Icon

- Ok, I have a few comments about the review squad.
- Maybe I misunderstood what the review squad is to be :) .
- I thought of it of something to be maintained and developed locally where the XO's are delivered, as a sort of peer reviewing system, which would involve the XO owners (kids), their parents, teachers, etc.
- Any XO owner (kid) could become a Reviewer for content and activities. He would provide his reviews, and be part of the local (school?) XO kids review group.
- Any educator could become a reviewer for content and activities. He would provide his reviews, and be part of the local (school?) educators review group.
- Any parent could become a reviewer for content and activities. He would provide his reviews, and be part of the local (school?) parents review group.
- All these local groups and reviewers would be able to also access the reviews made by others in other places and other countries where the XO's have been deployed.
- So my purpose for making this icon was not to be used as a "stamp of approval", but as a "stamp of being reviewed", and as general logo idea for local reviewing groups to adopt/adapt/use.
- Then again, I'm happy if it is used right now, in another fashion. It is my "gift" to the project :) HoboPrimate 09:55, 1 August 2007 (EDT)
