I work at Pima Community College in Tucson, Arizona. The College has purchased two XO laptops, and three people in the IT department have also purchased the XO. While we are not sure if the XO would make sense for the adult learners in our environment, with an annual student population of 75,000 students, there is potential that we could find areas where the XO would have a positive impact on learning.
Southern Arizona has some ideal K-12 school districts. As a grassroots OLPC effort, fans of the XO could come together to work with local teachers and community leaders to convince K-12 school systems to pilot the XO in their classrooms. There is a tremendous amount of opportunity in Southern Arizona to leverage new technologies for improved pedagogy in our school systems, and I hope there are liked minded individuals who share a similar vision.
