Introduction

Starting with operating system Update.1 (pre-lease build 700 or newer), 'base software' design does not include any activities.

Deployment staff working with OLPC staff and local volunteers, will develop a core base of activities to be installed on the XO-1 Laptop during deployment.

Give 1 Get 1 (G1G1) users who choose to upgrade to 'Update.1' will currently be without any base activities. Some custom installed activities may still remain, but for the most part... none will be guaranteed available.

This page is for developing the list of activities for the OLPC G1G1 deployment. Which currently is informally discussed among the grassroots volunteers with coordination of OLPC staff. Currently, there is no mechanism to gather/collect community volunteer input about deployment activities. So below is a starting list of ideas.

G1G1 deployment

The OLPC G1G1 deployment (as of March'2008, estimated to be over 80,000) units have been shipped between December 20th, and March 25th. These were shipped with base 'Ship2' (build 650), with auto-upgrade to (build 656). Eventually, all of these laptops (unless specifically opted out, or has developer key installed), will be updated to Ship.2.2 (build 656).

If any of these users update (by any update method olpc-update or activated_upgrade ) to Update.1 (build 700 or better), they will soon discover that their activities are no longer as they were: they will have moved from /usr/share/activities to /home/olpc/Activities.

The base activities that were shipped with G1G1 machines will be bundled for easy reinsatllation post Update.1. Additional activities may also be recommended for inclusion as 'G1G1 bundled activities' . Please add supporting notes (rational, pro/con, dependencies, etc..). The more justification, the more likely it will be included in final bundle. (ranked semi-order of importance in bundle, or need another method for 'weighing' desire of one bundle over another)

The idea also would be to limit the total number of activities or size/storage necessary. To make it easy to download and install. Could be split into phases or parts (??), if list of 'final' activities gets too large. (Define large as ???)
