Here's the deal. Alaska's educational system has the same sort of logistical challenges as many of the countries that OLPC is targeting when it comes to educating kids out in the rmote native villages. Alaska's population is comparably small but the distances between villages are absolutely gigantic and present real difficulties for educational outreach. Alaska certainly not going to be the target of an aggressive roll out, but that doesn't mean that the potential benefits of OLPC to kids in Alaska should be ignored.

I want to see a conversation about OLPC happening here. And I can do that by getting XO's and PCs with Sugar interfaces in front of educators here on a limited basis. I would absolutely love to have a travelling XO lab that I could let a teacher use for a month or two at a time. I would absolutely love to be able to put together small collections of XO units and send them to selected bush teachers when they travel to their schools at the beginning of the school year. I don't need to target the entire state to see if this will have a positive impact. I can do a targeted grassroot pilot program to jump start a real conversation about OLPC impacting Alaskan village education.
