USB and add-on testing procedure and results

October 10, 2011 Using XO 1.5 Build 11-3/os8.zd4

TESTING NOT YET PERFORMED - TEMPLATE ONLY


Fresh USB key reflash, boot, attach to wpa2, yum install usbutils to enable lsusb command


USB Ethernet Adapters - inserted into XO before boot, tested after cold boot:

0665:2203 Linksys Inc USB100TX Ethernet [pegasus]: Gnome OK, Sugar OK

USB Line-Powered CD/DVD drive - USB inserted before boot, disc inserted after boot

Gnome:

ISO CD media: Icon appears on desktop, file system auto-mounted and displayed

ISO DVD media: Icon appears on desktop, file system auto-mounted and displayed

UDF DVD media: Icon appears on desktop, file system auto-mounted and displayed

CD Audio media: error message "Unable to Mount audio disk, cannot find drive /dev/sr0" no change from previous release

dmesg for above gives olpc-pm-1.5 SCI 0x4 received and SCI 0x0 received, gnome-disk-utility displays drive, but no volume information

Sugar:

ISO CD media: CD Icon appears in frame, file system mounts and displays in Journal

ISO DVD media: CD Icon appears in frame, file system mounts and displays in journal

UDF DVD media: CD Icon appears in frame, file system mounts and displays in Journal

CD Audio media: no icon appears in frame, no error message

dmesg for Audio gives olpc-pm-1.5 SCI 0x4 received and SCI 0x0 received - no change from previous release


USB Powered Hub - inserted before boot

all above USB attachments behave through the hub exactly as when direct attached

Install cheese, guvcview, ffmpeg, and gstreamer bad and ugly with dependencies

(NB: only cheese + cheese-lib required to install if only cheese is desired to control the scope)

Cheese: Gnome OK, Sugar OK

GUVCview: Gnome OK, Sugar OK

Switch back and forth to internal camera, Cheese and GUVCview both OK as above

(NB GUVCview is a multi-window app and needs special frame attention in Sugar if the controls window gets hidden)


Test External SISUSB VGA with Cheese/GUVCview and internal camera

Cheese:

Sugar: Image jumpy/Freeze, not really usable - better than 10-3,where it was a complete image freeze

Gnome: Image jumpy/freeze, not really usable - better than 10-3,where it was a complete image freeze

GUVCView:

Sugar: smoother image, but app closes randomly: not really usable

Gnome: OK


Test External SISUSB VGA with Cheese/GUVCView and External Microscope

Cheese:
