Propósito

Esta nueva version del software de OLPC agrega soporte para la nueva laptop XO-1.75, e incluye algunas nuevas características y arreglos. Las XO-1 y XO-1.5 tambien son incluidas en esta version.

Para la laptop XO-1.75 (en etapa prototipo al momento de esta release, no disponible como un modelo final), esta release actua como una verificación de los procesos de publicación e infraestructura, pero no representa la calidad del software que será enviado a los clientes. Mientras hemos hecho grandes progresos en los últimos pocos meses en el desafío de actualizar el software para una radicalmente diferente arquitectura de hardware, aún hay cuestiones pendientes relacionadas con audio, video y manejo de energía, y unos pocos bordes sin pulir en otros lugares. OLPC planea publicar una version de software direccionada a estas cuestiones antes de que el hardware de la XO-1.75 esté finalizado y entre en producción.

Nuevas características

Sugar-0.94

Sugar-0.94 es incluido en esta versión. Esta actualización incluye varias mejoras como una Vista de Fuente más potente, e intercambio más sencillo de archivos entre el Diario y el sistema de archivos.

Un cambio notable es que el boton Guardar copia ha sido quitado de las actividades. Muchos usuarios malinterpretaban este boton como Grabar, pero actualmente Sugar graba tu trabajo por ti, no tienes que decirle que lo haga. La funcionalidad del ahora removido boton "Guardar copia", puuede ser descripta mejor como duplicar; aquellos que lo usan con la intención de grabar tendrán realmente dos copias de su trabajo.

Otra mejora notable es que la animación durante el inicio de las actividades ha sido optimizada y ahora consume muchos menos recursos que antes. En 11.2.0 en XO-1 puedes haber visto que la animación no haya aparecido o pulsado; ahora aparece sin fallas y pulsa suavemente, despite the underlying system being very busy loading the activity in question.

Activities

• All the activities were reviewed by the Design Team to make the user interface more consistent.

There are pending changes but many items were improved in this cycle.

• The Portfolio activity has been added to the default set of activities shipped by OLPC. This activity automatically creates a slide show from Journal entries that have been 'starred'.

• Browse activity now supports tabs.

• GetBooks activity interface improved to more easily use the book catalogs and show hundred of available classic books for download.

• Distance activity can be used with different units and has an option to specify your own custom units.

XO-1.75 support

A great deal of engineering effort has gone into the production of the hardware and software of OLPC's new XO-1.75 laptop. This new laptop model may look and feel the same as previous XOs, but represents a radical change internally: an ARM processor is now used (similar to those found in common mobile phones and tablets). The processor is now included on the same chip as the rest of the core system functionality, taking the definition of System-on-Chip to a new level.

The XO-1.75 also adds accelerometer hardware, presenting many new opportunities for user interaction with the laptop. For example, see Bert Freudenberg's example of how tilting of the laptop can be used to control a ball's motion in Etoys. (Other activities that take advantage of the accelerometer include Turtle Blocks and Fraction Bounce, a game for exploring fractions.
