3. Objectives

Project Objectives:
Quality assurance of OLPC software builds
Sugar-on-a-Stick on-xo development

4. Plan of Action

Plan and Procedure for Achieving the Stated Objectives: We'll check in biweekly on IRC with other groups working on the same tasks, and document our work extensively in the Wiki.

5. Needs

Why is this project needed? Both of the project objectives would be very beneficial to the XO user experience.
Locally? We have a large group of willing students who would be happy to work on this project.
Why can't this project be done in emulation using non-XO machines? We're testing how the hardware performs both in isolation and in combination with older generation software.
Why are you requesting the number of machines you are asking for?
Will you consider (1) salvaged/rebuilt or (2) damaged XO Laptops? - Yes, but I don't think you have damaged XO-1.5 B2s :)

6. Sharing Deliverables

Project URL—where you'll report specific ongoing progress: http://wiki.laptop.org/go/OLPC_Learning_Club_D.C./XO-1.5
How will you convey tentative ideas & results back to the OLPC/Sugar community, prior to completion? Wiki, IRC, ML.
How will the final fruits of your labor be distributed to children or community members worldwide? Through superior software and UX.
Will your work have any possible application or use outside our community? If by "our" you mean DC, yes. Outside of OLPC/SL, yes if software developed or tested by us is used elsewhere.
If yes, how will these people be reached? Via mailing list and IRC communication.
Have you investigated working with nearby XO Lending Libraries or Project Groups? Better, we run both of those.

7. Quality/Mentoring

Would your Project benefit from Support, Documentation and/or Testing people? Yes, but testing is one of our major goals.
How will you promote your work? Through a vast multi-milion dollar marketing bonanza. But seriously, we'll show it off at local group meetings, on-wiki, and on-ML.

We'll also work with Sebastien and other members of the SoaS team.

8. Timeline (Start to Finish)

Please include a Proposed timeline for your Project life-cycle: (this can be in the form of Month 1, Month 2, etc rather than specific dates)
  • Month 1: Verify current SoaS-on-XO technologies continue to work
  • Month 1.5: Identify components that need to be changed
  • Month 2: Change said components
Specify how you prefer to communicate your ongoing progress and obstacles!
[X] I agree to pass on the laptop(s) to a local OLPC group or other interested contributors in case I do not have need for the laptop(s) anymore or in case my project progress stalls.

We'll pass it along to the lending library
