Power up boot sequence for activated, secure laptops

Laptops can be pre-activated at the factory (G1G1 laptops, for example) or they can be activated with a key, as in typical country deployments. This is the boot up sequence for either type of activated laptop.

  1. Press Power Button; Power LED should come on; Start up sound should play
  2. Backlight comes on
  3. White XO character appears in the middle of the screen
  4. After a few seconds the XO character separates and the top half slowly revolves in a circle; 12 dots appear in the positions of numbers on a clock face
  5. After as much as a few minutes, the Sugar home screen appears
    • The XO character in the center is now colored
    • A Journal icon appears in the 'donut'
    • Battery and Wifi symbols appear below the donut
    • A row of activity icons appear along the bottom
    • Four navigation icons appear along the top

If you do not see the items listed above once the laptop has finished booting; there may be a problem with the software build. Software trouble-shooting would be the next step. Document the version of the build and the openfirmware.

Power up boot sequence for non-secure laptops
