"There is currently no "open" (as in open source) translation memory available for all to use." This is not quite correct.

KBabel and OmegaT are, among other solutions, free (GPL) translation memory applications

  • OmegaT is initially designed for the translation of documentations (Wiki, manuals, etc.). It accepts po-files too.
  • KBabel (or Pootle) for the source files (PO, POT)
