A USB update means to use a USB drive to update an OLPC XO laptop.

The concept is broad:

  • using a USB drive to install a release, which erases all existing data on the XO,
  • using a USB drive to update or upgrade from an old release to a new release, which preserves most of the existing data on the XO,
  • using a USB drive to reflash firmare, and;
  • using a USB drive to add activities,

Install a Release

Read the installation section of the release notes of the latest stable release.

We still hold a very old USB install of 8.2, or see the very old clean-install of 8.2, or the very old no-fail update to 8.2.

Update or Upgrade to a Release

Read the update section of the release notes of the latest stable release, or see the generic instructions.

Reflashing Firmware

See Upgrading firmware.

Activities

Prepare the USB drive with a set of activities, insert the USB drive into the XO, open the Journal, select the USB drive icon, then click on each activity.
