Implementing a women and child centered approach.

Strategic coordination, integration and partnerships

We believe this grant proposal fulfills the requirement to be multi-sectorial. We operate on many levels with multiple partnerships. First, individuals from different US colleges are bringing their experience and resources to bear. We are colleagues from Dominican College, Touro College, Harvard University and Carnegie Mellon University. Secondly, four universities from Uganda are also represented: Kampala University, Makerere University, Kisubi Brothers and University of the Mountain of the Moons.

Each Ugandan University will serve as the local disseminator of training and support, the director of installations of equipment and the monitor of their sector of the grant. Each university will work through their School of Education to train primary school teachers in the scope and purpose of this grant and to monitor the implementation of the curriculum for primary school students.

Supporting these efforts are local business and NGO partners. Silver Shadows will oversee the installation of the computers which will be the carrier of learning materials and be responsible for repairs. Country ownership and country led plans

The ownership and beneficiary of all finances and outcomes of this grant belong to the Ugandans. We have purposefully divided the grant into 5 parallel sites, which will be under the supervision of 4 universities (5 campuses). Each site will have a hub at the university involved. Each top administrator (.......need name) will appoint both a research coordinator, a logistics administrator, and a School of Education Grant Supervisor.

Each Education Grant Supervisor will put the training schedule into place and work with the Logistics Administrator call upon the US and Ugandan support people. These support people will be professors from the Ugandan and US universities, NGOs, Technology Companies, and Health Professionals. Two consortia, one in the US and one in Uganda will communicate regularly to share best practices, found solutions to common problems, share curriculum, etc.

Classes in Uganda will be organized for "train the trainer" sessions as well as in service teacher training. Additional training can be done at the district level as professional development. Each primary school teacher in the 5 districts will receive training and XO computers for each student in his/her classroom and will be held accountable for progress.

Curriculum will be provided by the online and in-service training, and it will be the primary school teacher's responsibility to teach that curriculum and monitor progress on the classroom level. Polling software will be part of the XO content and the results of these polls will be gathered at the district level and passes upward to the university Research Coordinator in order to improve delivery.

We believe the approach that brings the power and knowledge of a University program down to the level of a primary school student will not only enhance the curriculum and raise its importance, but also provide a pathway for learning for students as they aspire to seek higher levels of education.

Learning, Accountability and Sustainability

Models of implementation

Administration:

Collaboration amongst administrators at colleges in the consortium will be self sustaining. Overall coordinator is Dr. Joanne Clemente but all administrators will have access to all information and oversee their sector's progress.

Teachers:

Online instruction to in service teachers, which will include guest speakers who are expert in the field of focus. Topics will be food security, nutrition, health, HIV/AIDS prevention, sex education, prevention and reporting of child abuse, women studies, technology.

In person instruction to in service teacher,which will include guest speakers who are expert in the field of focus. Topics same as above.

Train the trainer instruction to propagate instruction to additional personnel in each school in the district. Each school will have a local trainer onsite. This local school trainer will have received more intensive instruction..

Scholarships on a competitive basis will be provided for US training in such areas as Public Health

Support:

NGOs will provide experts, after-school activities and in person support. NGOs will provide all with access to resources. Amagezi:PLEASE ADD HERE.
