OLPC:Protection requests

From OLPC

Jump to: navigation, search

A few pages on the wiki, those in Category:Protected, are protected from anonymous or new-user edits. You can still edit the talk pages of protected pages, and suggest updates or changes; and you can request protection of new pages, or unprotection of protected pages, below.

Protection

If you encounter a page that is being vandalized repeatedly, or that shouldn't be edited by new users, please list the page for protection below.

Protection in most cases should be for only a few days, until immediate vandalism or edit wars die down. Pages that are in the limelight for a short period of time should not necessarily be protected -- the wiki encourages direct collaboration, and these prominent pages can be the best places for people to start. On the other hand, while editors should generally be bold, sometimes there's no one around to help with mediating an edit war, and quick protection is the only way to go.

Requests for protection

Please list the name of the page and any details below, and sign your request with ~~~~.

  • Main Page -- can we protect this further, so that linked images and templates are covered by the same protection? Sj talk 02:30, 12 December 2007 (EST)
  • OLPC_Peru/Revisits --Carla 21:39, 29 July 2008 (UTC)
I'm not sure I understand the purpose of protecting this page. Just created, so no real history of vandalism. Even though it is a first person narrative and unlikely to have too many text edits, I can easily see improvements that users might make (if allowed) like using gallery tags for OLPC_Peru/Revisits#April, etc. Cjl 22:36, 29 July 2008 (UTC)

Unprotection

If you want to edit a protected page, you can request that it be unprotected.

Requests for unprotection

Please list the name of the page and any details below, and sign your request with ~~~~.

  • Main Page -- why can't we edit the main page anonymously? Sj talk 02:30, 12 December 2007 (EST)

  • You guys protected Secure Upgrade and even changed the 'version' number to the current stable but never changed the links to the downloads.

I am pretty sure that M_stone is taking over management of these pages now Seth 18:50, 27 August 2008 (UTC)

  • Activation and developer keys: Build 703 does not have an "other" link on the browser Library page. See page's talk page for details and some clearer instructions that need to be incorporated into this protected page. User:Esemplectic 2008-06-28
  • Learning Vision -- I would like to change the link to the Create project's wiki to my thesis. The wiki doesn't exist anymore! Claudia 23:10, 26 August 2008 (EDT)
