What I can contribute

Time

I would like to contribute 6-10 hours each week to OLPC content development, ad infinitum.

Skills

I have an assortment of technical skills, including:

  • HTML
  • CSS
  • ASP/VBScript
  • Relational databases (specifically, Access)
  • Corporate reporting (advanced Access, basic Crystal Reports)
  • Instructional design (Masters Certificate from Capella University)
  • Some JavaScript

And an interest in learning:

  • XML
  • More Javascript
  • Python

Other skills that could be useful:

  • English (fluent read, write, speak)
  • Writing and editing skills
  • Excellent organizational skills

Energy

My "first day" G1G1 contribution means that our XO should be here before Christmas, and we (husband-to-be and me) are jumping out of our skins with anticipation. The implications of their distribution in developing countries brings me to tears, and I am eager to do something(s) that helps.

Where/How I would like to contribute

I'll link these to Education Content pages after I figure out Wiki hypertext :) In the meantime, here are ideas and projects where I could be useful, in no particular order:

Narration

  • Recording audio from Project Gutenberg public domain texts (chapter a day)
  • Creating narrated and captioned Flash movies (or whatever format works best) for XO technical instructions

Captioning

  • Captioning videos in English
  • Editing English video captions

Video/Photography

  • Contributing "look at that" video snips, photographs, and descriptions of everyday things that the kids may enjoy
  • Photographs to any libraries that are collecting
    • Travel photography from Crete, Rome, London, Montreal
    • Anything in or around Washington DC, USA, within 100 miles or so
    • Photos of everyday things the kids may be interested in

What's Next?

As a start, I'm going to track down folks who can give direction on what public domain books would be a good listen for the kids. So if you know, or know who knows, give me a holler!

Think I could help with something you're working on? Just ask: cdubdub.olpc*AT*gmail*DOT*com

Many blessings,
