FIRST STEP Comment on the 'The Internet as a Backbone' statement: “I feel that the best way to start the education process would be a very meticulously crafted website or series of websites that cover the educational needs for various grade levels… “ maybe one way to begin the process is to use or develop reference tools like www.k-12math.info . Using a spreadsheet format the site provides information on where and how 1,000 commonly used mathematics terms are used in elementary and secondary school mathematics programs. Virtual lessons are easy to develop, when we know what needs to be developed. With 10’s of thousands of pieces of information on the 86 textbooks presently reviewed in the www.k-12math.info site; there are teacher trainers and curriculum (and materials) developers using the site as a quick reference tool. It has users in South America and Europe (I am looking into adding a French version to the site to make it tri-lingual).
