New beginning... clean talk page!
Don't worry, all your posts have been preserved in my archive. The only thing that I changed there is that I tried to group the posts by subject area: translations, the wiki, and others. They've also been chronologically reversed, so in each area, the oldest are at the bottom.
That said: welcome to my talk page! Please feel free to post in english, spanish or french — portuñol I may be able to decipher, maybe some italiano (sorry, no asian languages in my bag) — on whatever subject :) Xavi 01:16, 17 September 2007 (EDT)
It's about time :) just joking.
I just couldn't resist being the first to post something on your Clean page

Hi,
Been too long of a time since last x-change of comms sorry I've been very busy promoting here in the Rural:Philippines :)

Benjamin Mako Hill
As you can perhaps see from history of the page in question, I did not create that page. It is a biographical page about me because of my involvement with the project. I have a user page which I have created.
If you don't think the main namespace should exist, please go ahead and delete it. It does not bother me. —mako๛ 00:35, 20 September 2007 (EDT)
RE: Status of Measure in OBX template
follow-up to User talk:Xavi#Status of Measure in OBX template
- Oops! yes you're right. And yes, 'bundled' seems fine. The categorization is still not totally defined (that's why they are red/missing), so any suggestions & feedback are more than welcome.
- I haven't removed the old {{Status box}} as I want to make sure there are no objections, and that the OBXes are helpful. Comments? :) --Xavi 11:20, 22 September 2007 (EDT)
- I love the OBXes! They concisely convey all the most important things a new user might want to know about any activity. Although, I cannot think of any now, I would let you know of any suggestions for additional fields in the OBXes. Great work on the OBXes! --Arjs 11:53, 22 September 2007 (EDT)
RE: Talk:Greece_Test_Reports not in english
It seems that I keep stumbling across some of your past requests :) and wish you had added a Category:Needs Translation to english or ???
Said page has been Translated: I opened two tabs of edit the page, translated first with babel fish, and cut / pasted line for line after the Δεδομένα (Data) into the second tabbed page. This only works good for me on short pages.
For many languages not available at google translate try Yahoo! BabelFish. I don't know if it could work as a parser function template though?

Maintain the PO files.
Really nice job of you.Awesome! Thanks for your co-operative activities.
One thing i would like to acknowledge you ,it would be more effective if we maintain the po files much more generic.Since some string or sentences has been frequently repeated in different po files,so if we resolve this redundancy in each po file it would more efficient to work.
- Thanks Nirmal, I'm just trying to help :)
- As for making more effective the POs (or rather the POTs) that depends (mostly? exclusively?) on the developers, afaik. BTW, I agree totally with you as I've seen lots of replicated strings (specially in TamTam files). I'm not an expert on the subject, but some tools do provide things like 'memory' so you will actually be reusing the translated strings associated to previous translations, saving you the effort. BTW, the in-wiki solution is not really optimal as the tools can't be used, but at least it address some issues we are having :) Xavi 09:40, 29 September 2007 (EDT)
deleting popular pages
dont forget that it is more than just the in'wiki linksthat break when a page i deleted rather than left asa redirect. for pages that have become popular over months, or even a few very prominent weeks, including any page that was linked rom the main page, it is good to leave the original page title and have it redirect [once] to the nerw page. at the same time, fix doubleredirects by removing anything that is onwiki and points to the old page title...
finally ,in addition to keeping links on the web and in blog posts from breaking, you want people who are typing a url by handto go somewhere expected...even if it is no longer the page title, ifsomeone might guess it, better to save them from having to search. that said, nice celanup job :) andthx for helping finishthe demo notes title moves Sj talk 22:05, 3 October 2007 (EDT)

Bulgaria Translation
Hey, thanks for moving the pages. However, I had left them outside the naming convention, because they were not done. In a way, I created the new pages as my temporary working place. So, please, next time ask me before you make serious changes. Again, I appreciate your help! --Cryout 14:46, 16 October 2007 (EDT)
time for commons-style multilingual guidelines?
Cang_Jie_imes is my favorite new page in a while. It looks like we'll need some standard way to help people find all of the pages in their language; and to have short messages in many languages on a single talk page... have you looked at some of the multilingual extensions wikimedia commons uses? They manage to keep lots of languages together on a single page. we also need a proper water cooler where community members can share questions and ideas less formally than creating new pages for the mor added them to 'olpc lists' and FAQ... Portuguese changes
Hi Xavi... FYI: Someone changed a Portuguese language template in a way that is similar to the vandalbots, but not identical: Template:Translation/changes/lang-pt. I'm not sure if this is actually vandalism, so I reverted my rollback; perhaps you are more familiar with the language? —Joe 21:29, 28 October 2007 (EDT)
Publishing translation on the laptop.org website
Hi, Xavi, I am now almost down with the Bulgrian translation of laptop.org and I don't know how to close the project. What is the process for getting the translation live? Currently I enlisted a few people to make corrections, so I am doing some quality control. What is next? Thanks a lot. --Cryout 10:47, 4 November 2007 (EST)
- Thank you for directing me to Walter. I wrote to him and will be waiting for his answer. About recruiting more translators, I am in the process at the moment. A name was suggested to me from a Bulgarian Linus-translating community and I am now trying to get in contact. --Cryout 10:31, 5 November 2007 (EST)

Translation terms: to delete or not to delete
Hi I just noticed that you tagged Translation terms which I started to use yesterday as a page to be deleted. I know about Pootle translation project, but there are a couple of reasons why I wanted to have an en-ru translation glossary page. First of all we came across a situation when one term (Activity, to be exact) may be translated differently in different contexts. Then in some cases we feel a need to discuss the best translation for each case before it is finalized, and it is better to do it in an open way rather than in private correspondence. So this page was created as a draft page for translation terms before they go to Pootle. I asked a question about it on the discussion page, but nobody seemed to respond :-) --Biarm 23:05, 28 November 2007 (EST)
- Hi Xavi. I would appreciate any technically sound solution that will allow to suggest variants of translations and discuss them. If it is possible to arrange that as a part of Pootle's terminology project, it is fine with me. I just think that PTP is something more advanced. And my concern is about volunteer translators who come to localize various wiki pages and need some easy to handle wiki glossary to play with the translation template and have some initial practice. It is just to early to redirect those people to the Pootle server. (This is exactly the situation that we have with Russian translations). So my suggestion would be to keep a draft glossary wiki page somewhere (to me Translation terms serves this purpose well and, as soon as a term is finalized, transfer it to the Pootle glossary. Does that make sense? :-) --Biarm 09:42, 30 November 2007 (EST)
Thanks for the gallery markup on the Simplified user guide
Great edits on the user guide, I really appreciate it. Makes for much easier scrolling. And I wouldn't have known about the markup for layout so I appreciate it - teaching me wikitext, awesome. --annegentle 08:58, 30 November 2007 (EST)
==Getting started in Pootle==1/ hi..I've signed up to Pootle as my girlfriend might be able to translate some sections into Turkish, but when I go here https://dev.laptop.org/translate/tr/ there are no entries... How do I get started? --Tomhannen 10:13, 9 December 2007 (EST)
In Argentina in January
Xavi! I'm traveling to Argentina for a wedding in January. I'll be in BA 1/10 and 1/11, in Mendoza 1/12 through 1/14, and back in BA from 1/15 to 1/17. Where are you? And will you be around? --Lauren 12:06, 13 December 2007 (EST)
interwiki linking
Xavi:
Here's my page testing interwiki links. It looks like most of the common MediaWiki interwiki links are enabled. It's just the one to the English-language Wikipedia that doesn't work (e.g. WikiPedia:User:BlankVerse or WikiPedia:Argentina). I left a message on User:sj's talk page, since he is as close as I've found to a MediaWiki expert on the OLPC wiki. BlankVerse 19:59, 28 December 2007 (EST)

Xoxo/Statistics
Xavi,
Saw your cool stats pages, in Xoxo/Statistics. I'm guessing that those pages were auto-generated. And I'd be interested in seeing them continue (But maybe not in the main user space... maybe 'OLPC:Statistics' ???
Also, I don't know if you have heard, but a bunch of the recent new users (myself included) are interesting in starting up a regular online 'XO Laptop 'zine '. With a little background search, I discovered that you and several others tried to do something similar 3 to 4 months ago.
Would you be interested in helping us out, or chipping in ... in someway? Lots of chatter about it on irc #olpc-support-gang ....
Thanks, --IainD
- In fact, we will need our own chan for it soon. Let's talk about how to get these translated -- I really want the first ed. to be in 3 languages. --Sj leave me a message 09:01, 17 January 2008 (EST)
Sj,
I believe that Seth is working on putting the pieces together. (Which reminds me, I'll need to get my part done soon! :) Looks like we have several espanol people on the gang list. Which three languages are you thinking of ? The rest of the languages we could do a 'lazy translate' with Google/langauge. What do you mean by 'own chan' ?? --iainD 07:56, 18 January 2008 (EST)
Help out a new translator?
I have a translator, User:Wing, who can do traditional and some simplified Chinese, but doesn't really understand how the translation templates work. I haven't done anything with them, so I don't have a lot of background in it. Right now he is just translating blocks of text from http://laptop.org and storing them as .doc files with the original text included, so he is getting work done, but at some point he will need to put this into a template. Help?

How can I help with Spanish for Update-1?
I'm es-4, not native, but email me using the wiki if you have a specific translating task for me - I'm 100% confident I can review/test an activity, 95% confident I can do a new activity from scratch, and only about 80% confident with big chunks of text like mmm-lessonplans (me salen bien legibles, pero no sin errores. De hecho, haber aprendido a leer en ingles primero es una ventaja en lo que respeta la ortografía, la única ventaja de tener un idioma tan ilógico...). I'm not interested in doing the wiki, just the device. Thanks! Homunq 14:21, 4 February 2008 (EST)

Xoxo/Statistics pages
Just doing some wiki-cleanup and while I was looking through the orphaned pages, I noticed about 40 pages you made of type Xoxo/Statistics. . . Are they worth keeping for historical reasons? I notice most of them have very low view counts (about 15-20). Cjl 16:38, 14 April 2008 (EDT)
