What We Do

The One Laptop per Child University Initiative at Duke (OLPC@Duke) is a new student service organization aimed to help the education of children of low-income families in the local community and around the world. We are currently a group of 15 to 20 active members from both Pratt and Trinity. We currently are working to start a pilot program in the Durham, NC area, as well as do software/hardware development both related and unrelated to this pilot program.

About the Pilot Program

The pilot program is right now focused around the Charter Community School in Durham, NC. We hope to fill out a classroom of 4th graders in the school with XO laptops, for the purpose of piloting and evaluating the laptops in an urban school environment. We will support the students weekly in activities dealing with the laptops, and even develop software requested by the teachers (or even students).

Check out the "One Pager" about the program and also the (almost) finished proposal.
