[ PROJECT #1 - Next Billion Learner Program in Partnership with eKindling: Philippines & New York ]

<Ryan> will be used for the development of these learning activities in the Philippines:

<Ryan> There are other projects/development on the way as well. 8 1.5 XO laptop is justified because of the amount of development that is taking place.
<Ryan> thanks everyone and please feel free to email me at rletada@ekindling.org if you have any question
<Ryan> thanks for your time

<CanoeBerry> Project Background/Objectives:
<CanoeBerry> The World Wide Workshop Foundation’s "Next Billion Learners" intiative
<CanoeBerry> focuses on the development of creative learning software for low cost
<CanoeBerry> laptops, in order to support 1:1 computing worldwide. Our goal is to
<CanoeBerry> give educational opportunities to the next billion learners so that they
<CanoeBerry> will become creative thinkers, learners and leaders with technology. As
<CanoeBerry> the first project in this initiative in 2007-08, the foundation
<CanoeBerry> partnered with OLPC to create the MaMaMedia Creative Learning Center, a
<CanoeBerry> set of original Constructionist Learning activities for young children
<CanoeBerry> in developing countries wherein the OLPC organization has been deploying
<CanoeBerry> their laptop programs. The MaMaMedia Creative Center is based on
<CanoeBerry> award-winning, kid-tested, hard-fun puzzles, digital toys, and
<CanoeBerry> creativity tools from MaMaMedia.com.
<CanoeBerry> The objective of the Next Billion Learner Philippines Project is to
<CanoeBerry> integrate constructionist learning activities (e.g. MaMaMedia Creative
<CanoeBerry> Center) into the educational programming of the first 1:1 Computing/OLPC
<CanoeBerry> Initiative in the Philippines.

<CanoeBerry> +1 after talking this over with Claudia Urrea
<CanoeBerry> Even though http://www.rifed.ucr.ac.cr is unfortunately down.
<sandrat> It would be good for this team to get some more committed leaders in Costa Rican education on board to build credibility for this ambitious outreach effort
<sandrat> Committment of Claudia and maybe one of the Uruguay deployments leaders would help this get real
<sandrat> +1
<CanoeBerry> sandrat: thanks
<CanoeBerry> other votes out there?
<maraschino> Isn't CP's policy not to give laptops for the purpose of pilots?
<_sj_> I love claudia
<CanoeBerry> maraschino: no
<CanoeBerry> maraschino: the Contributors Program is an incentive for folks making great/sharable thing
<_sj_> and she has a clear sense of what is locallly useful in the region
<CanoeBerry> In this case, Claudia certinaly believes deeply in this group's ability to deliver great+sharable contructionist
materials
<sandrat> Claudia's perspective is important ..so go for it
<CanoeBerry> I'll take _sj_ statement as +1
