PROJECT: INITIATIVE TO GET COMPUTERS FOR SCHOOLS IN UGANDA

PROJECT AIMS: Give life skills to children that emphasize interactive learning and

                 integrates the acquisition of knowledge (information) and skill
                 building (communication).
               + Improving learning abilities of children
               + Support children in making future differences in their communities and the world.
               + Establish an online school newspaper that will connect the students to the world, assess information and legitimate training which would open the doors for students to attend Universities around the world.
               + Give children an outlet for their career, allowing them to create something that demands their free expression and a culture that communicates their dreams, desire in life, the rights fulfilled and their contribution acknowledged.

HYECT

It’s an organization based in Uganda working with children/ Youth and their communities, empowering them socially, economically and spiritually. HYECT mobilized the necessary courage and skills to diagnose the local children/Youth problems, and in the light of that diagnosis has taken action through advocacy and service to alleviate the dire consequences of abuse and promotion of their rights. Most HYECT programs activities are off -grid environment

UGANDA is an English speaking country referred to by the colonials as a Pearl of Africa, making it a fully globalized nation. It has thousands of primary schools that admit children aged 5-15 olds. Some private schools and few government schools have assess to ICT programs, to the rest remain with little or no assess to computers, more so laptops for individual students to use . This project will empower children, opportunity to interact, learn and contribute locally, regionally and most important globally by influx of 100 OLPC laptops. The project will solely target primary school students age 6-15.

HYECT works with 80 university students’ volunteers and partners with different schools in delivering services to children / youth, which will help delivering OLPC services to children with ease. Children will be in school June to August creating ample time to enter class rooms for computer training and follow up. Meeting with school administration with be organized to make training schedules of children on how to use XO laptops, thereafter, computers given out. Follow up will be made to assess the usage of XO laptops by children and impact, the training will be conducted in the local mother tongue for children to understand well.

HYECT and partners are capable of handling the receipt of 230kg package of laptops and equipments, all to be stored on arrival in our stores under 24 hours guard good. Government ICT minister, local leaders and other concerned government officials will be invited for the launch start of the project.

Introducing 100 OLPC laptops to poor village schools as such influence and potential to shift the entire future development of Uganda and cultural mindset, onto a competing global stage where integrated technologies and ideas / concepts meet their full potential for the betterment of humanity. Poor village school children will take tangibly first steps towards a new era of self responsibility, freedom, future and there will be great achievement in ICT knowledge in the future generation since children are the agent of change.

HYECT and partners will continue working towards developing the project and overseeing it after August and Hyect will work together with its village level committees on OLPC project supervision and implementation. The project objectives will be achieved by training children on how to use computers and distribution.

All OLPC activities will take a time line of 1 year after receipt of the laptops and Hyect and partners have capable trained ICT personnel to handle the project effectively.

MONITORING and EVALUATION of the project will be handled by Hyect staff, team of our university student volunteers and a comprehensive report forwarded to OLPC
